This would be a war crime even if there were an actual war and these people were actual combatants, which there isn't and they weren't.

It's unquestionably an unlawful homicide under any form of law you wish to apply: military or civilian, domestic or international, federal or state. ...

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Finally got around to watching Fantastic Four: First Steps. While that wasn't the world's most amazing movie, it sure was a better Fantastic Four movie than any of the previous ones.

Poco Loco, my local extremely white taco shop, is having a seasonal special "grande gobbler" for a few days. A flatbread with turkey, cheese, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a cup of gravy.

I've added some of Sauce Leopard's Bird's Blood cranberry Habanero hot sauce to it.

Not bad!

Those shirts and these signs from supporters of the two teams which were cut from the CBS broadcast very clearly rankled people at USL HQ if they had to go to those lengths

This post by the USLPA needs to be seen and read.

The league withheld the materials from the USL Championship trophy celebration in retaliation for the players walking out in their USLPA shirts along with cutting out broadcast angles with that message.

This PR is like the perfect distillation of LLM-assisted hubris. Dev who has never written a compiler or even studied the DWARF spec vibe codes out 13k LOC of "support" in OCaml with a bunch of shallow test cases, and doesn't think he needs to understand his own PR because "Claude understands it!"
One of the many joys of using AI for programming is the creation of huge PRs on complex topics that the authors barely understand, but still suggest "because they work". Here's a great example from #OCaml github.com/ocaml/ocaml/...

Kudos to OCaml's maintainers for handling this so gracefully.

This column is titled “Out With Woke. In With Rage. There’s no reason for Carville to say anything about “woke” except as a signal to other white centrists that it’s ok to move left, but still leave Black people behind just like the New Deal did after the Great Depression.

This list is bizarre. But at least _Kind Hearts and Coronets_ (1949) is on the list! (#45)
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

If you gave me a public transit improvement like REM in my daily life I’d be dragging my friends out to whatever I could with it.

Hell, just during the 4 weeks of half hourly PVD-Bristol bridge detour ferry we had I dragged friends on winter ferry trips with me and they enjoyed it!
Lots of people on Reddit were in disbelief about all the positive REM videos, thinking it was a CDPQ conspiracy.

No, people really do like transit that much. You just don’t follow it when it happens in other cities.

And on top of that, the REM really is a particularly exciting project!

I find this completely believable since "Improved" doesn't mean "sufficient".

and even if it's sufficient, the enormous subsidies to driving remain. My bus could come every 5 minutes and yet I'd still be paying for my bus pass while my colleagues who drive are given $200/mo parking passes free

90% of authors are broke and wouldn’t survive without their day job. Yes even those with big-name publishers.

When you steal a free book download you are taking bread from their mouths.

Want a free book? Use the library, read AO3, etc. Only creeps and losers use unauthorized download sites
I posted a buy link here to "A Magical Inheritance" a few days ago, and 24 of you immediately went to Anna's Archives and fucking stole it from me.

Yes, stole it.

I do not get paid for your download there because YOU ARE STEALING FROM ME.

Wild. We always say on the podcast that owning a car is required for effective full enfranchisement in most places of the USA because we are such a car-dependent society, but this is...next level. They say it like it's disqualifying for office.
WaPo editorial board launches a disgusting car-brained attack on Seattle's new mayor Katie Wilson.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.
