If you take 2 days off, but the day you return is a Saturday, you're going to need to follow it up with an additional 2 days off.

Survived another banned books week but BOY did I have to really bite my tongue and walk away from FB. Did anyone else have an upsurge in bad faith arguments, deliberate misunderstandings, and verbatim talking points in the comments this year? Especially by non-library patrons? Bots, perhaps?

I come on here, last about 15 minutes, then encounter the Endless Screaming bot, and that about sums up my feeling about everything right now.

Jesus. Some lady called to reserve a conference room because she needs somewhere to put her dogs for a few hours.

Madam, this is a public library not a dog kennel service!

Yesterday's reasons I do this:

A patron on the spectrum recited Star Wars poetry to me.

An old man told dad jokes every time he walked past my desk ("I'm here all week, folks").

Kids were signing up for library cards and summer reading mere minutes after being released from the last day school.

But keep telling us how they care about the debt and efficiency. This colossal waste will stand as a historic monument to his malignant narcissism.
NEW: Unbelievable. A seemingly endless line of tanks & other military vehicles arrive in DC ahead of next week's parade.

They departed Texas 5 days ago.

What a colossal waste of time, money & military resources. All for a President who has shown zero respect for service personnel.

Watching my teacher friends gleefully post their end of school countdowns with increasing dread because it's also a doomsday clock for the library... SUMMER READING IS COMING!

If you care about libraries, museums, archives, and all the people who work at them, please call your elected officials ASAP. We have limited time to act on this.
We now have the details of the federal 2026 budget proposal, and it spells the end of IMLS. The request is $6,000,000 to "conduct an orderly closeout of IMLS."

Whatever happens in the 2 court cases would be moot if this passes.

My kids book club just finished Midnight at the Barclay Hotel, so we had our discussion while playing mystery boardgames - Outfoxed, classic Clue, and Junior Detective. We had a blast!

As we write, DOGE is reportedly inside the gates of the IMLS (Institute for Museum and Library Services), where Keith Sonderling, Deputy Secretary of Labor and “somehow now Acting Director” of IMLS is dismantling the agency that helps libraries be libraries. /1

You know the deep south, Mississippi & Louisiana, was where you'd get shipped downriver from the upper south in the days of chattel slavery because conditions down there were known to be more brutal, & that legacy remains in how heavy they incarcerate people, & they shipped Mahmoud Khalil downriver.

Every single stupid conversation I’ve had with a scientist about anticipatory obedience and historical comparisons over the last week has had me thinking about how scientists’ political incompetence is one of the major arguments for a liberal arts education

Like you’re literally a tool without it
A bunch of needs in labcoats:

"If we comply with the fascists demands they'll surely let us keep up our research"

Those same scientists months or years before:

"Eh, I'll skip history class. I wanna be a scientists. Not a historian lol"
Besides being cruel, anticipatory obedience doesn’t work www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...
