These measures are not advised or adopted in most places in the world. Certainly not the UK and the USA.
Flu is airborne, Covid is airborne, & clean air prevents the spread

Ventilation & masking are very effective protections - yet these simple scientific measure are *still* not advised or adopted by health services in Ireland 😷

Of course it is possible to stop the spread of airborne pandemic diseases!

The #CovidInquiry suggests
✅ Better Government communication of airborne risks
✅ Lockdowns can be avoided with good leadership & adequate preparedness

UKHSA is asking everyone to
✅ Open windows for better ventilation

By telling people to wear a mask when symptomatic, they're increasing the stigma of wearing a mask. The assumption will be that you're ill. We would like people to understand that you can wear #ffp3 to reduce the chance of spreading OR catching airborne diseases. Transmission can preceed symptoms.
UK: "Brits told to 'wear a mask' as flu spreads across country"

Flu positive rate rose to 11.6% weekending Nov 25 (from 10.7%). Health chiefs said the highest positivity was in children aged 5–14.

“We haven’t seen a virus like this for a while… these dynamics are unusual,” said Prof Nicola Lewis.

This study below discussing platelets as immune cells helps understand why SARSCOV2 infections, via the hyperactivation of platelets, which is not rare (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...), can be so problematic for people, even for apparently healthy people:

We're going to discover that pathogens are implicated in way more than we ever believed. It looks like one of the 'wider determinants of health' is prior infection.
Researchers from Guangzhou University reviewed evidence linking viruses to gut cancers.

At least 25% of people with HIV develop cancer, with higher risk across the GI tract.

SARS-CoV-2 may also raise long-term risk, but evidence is still emerging.
