Yep, possibly with a decent helping of Voudun in there as well being next to Benin which has a similar mix. I think when there are attacks, they are just on people in general, not specific groups. Given that most of the attacks seem to occur in the north, Muslims are more affected?

I don't know much about baseball but given how long this final took and how much fans enjoyed it, I think you now have an idea why cricket test matches are so popular. Why have a one day match when you can span 4 or 5 days 😀

Ha! I have no secrets from you! I like King Road as well because they have interesting obscure stuff and most of it in tubes. I prefer tubes because they are cheap and after a couple of years catch up with pot sized plants.

Cm. There are a few holdouts here that still do it in feets and inchis, sorry foots and inches is it? We have been metric for almost 50 years. I've used both systems and find imperial just silly.

Yes, blasted wildflowers again. Went to a specialist native plant nursery to get a specific tree. No luck, but just down the road was a profusion of Kangaroo Paws, our Western Australian state flower. The tree? Eucalyptus caesia. Small and beautiful. Google it 😀

A Red and Green Kangaroo Paw flower. Anigozanthus manglesii. I mentioned a few weeks ago that they can occur in large patches rather than singularly.

This is one of about five or six patches of Kangaroo Paws growing in a suburban National Park right next to a road. There are houses over the road from this park. They look out their front windows and see this. No, you can't pick them! It's illegal. They are public property for all to enjoy.

One of the plants in the nursery garden. This is a hybrid waxflower created for gardens. The bush was about 3m across and just covered in flowers. Many happy bees.

A chainsaw carving at the nursery. It's a Bluetongue Lizard. Sculpture is about 3m long and is called Yorn. He's getting a bit old now, but I remember when he was first done. The gardens are lovely and are used to give you ideas for what you can do with the Australian and Western Australian plants they sell. Oh BTW a real Bluetongue is about 30cm long. Very slow moving and harmless. We get them in our garden. Commonest enemies are cars, dogs, and stupid people.

It will be interesting to see the reaction from Americans from those states if they try to go overseas and a Visa requirement for the destination country is 'show us you vaccination history or get lost'.

Quickie today. A Black Kangaroo Paw, Macropodia Fulginosa. I mentioned these in a previous post. Endemic to WA but getting hard to find in the wild these days. This one was for sale at a specialist native plant nursery. Tempted but did not buy it.

A Black or Swamp Kangaroo Paw flower head. Macropodia Fulginosa. Endemic to the south western corner of Western Australia. There used to be a good spot for them near me, but it's now a housing estate. Getting harder to find in the wild but unlikely to become extinct as you can buy nursery propagated ones for the garden. It's illegal to take any native plants from the wild unless you have a license to do so. You cannot even pick the flowers. Rightly so!

Yes, I don't buy the 'nowhere else' bit. Maybe they just aren't making a big show about it. The rest of the world will decide what's best for them and where to get the best results for their money.

I know, commenting on my own post. I did image another 'deep south' galaxy, NGC 1313, the Topsy Turvey Galaxy but I'm not pleased with the result. Some idiot forgot the equipment to do calibration frames and the scope mount counterweights. Stay tuned :)

The processed data from my recent trip to some dark country skies. These three galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds and the Triangulum Galaxy are all part of our Local Group of Galaxies. The other notable member is the Andromeda Galaxy but that's too far north for me

Notes : noticeable aberration in this image. Still have not got the imaging train sorted out. Interested to revisit this target with some different filters and maybe even try a mosaic to get it all in. Not bad for a second try.

First attempt at this target and its just a quicky to get my head around the size and what might be the best scope to use with it. Next attempt will be with an 80mm scope so therefore more 'zoomed in'. I do like these images though that show an entire galaxy just 'hanging in space'. An island we can never reach, almost three million light years away. BTW that's still our astronomical 'back yard'

This is the mighty telescope used to capture these large night sky objects. Not made to do imaging but does a reasonable job. Maybe one day I can upgrade to a proper wide field scope but they are expensive. I just use this one because I have it.
