Ebola cases have more than doubled in a week in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Suspected cases increased from 28-68 in recent days, the Africa Centers for Disease Control & Prevention said during an online briefing. Ebola virus has also spread from 2-4 districts. The death toll stands at 16👇

Great news: #Tanzania 🇹🇿 has officially declared the end of the #Marburg virus disease outbreak.

Today, the Ministry of Health declared the end of the outbreak after 42 days with no new cases. This is a victory for public health in the country!

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus is transmitted by specific ticks. Present only south of 50’ latitude so far, global warming could make it move north. Within the German center for infection research (DZIF), @crnlsrhd.bsky.social at Marburg University develops vaccines against this virus.

#Ebola in Uganda: Confirmed cases up to 7, all contacts of the first confirmed case, the male nurse who died on 1/29. That is the only death so far. Other cases are family members or health workers who treated the nurse. Nearly 300 contacts have been identified & are being monitored. (source: #WHO)

Marburg outbreaks need rapid detection, isolation, contact tracing, and infection control. With MSF, WHO, and the Tanzanian MoH involved, 2 deaths, 8 probable deaths, 64 suspected cases, and 281 contacts are being monitored to contain the spread.
