if you made it this far through my ramblings, congrats, i suppose! take this doodle of me eating a sandwich i did a few weeks ago that i wasn't super happy with, and that kinda started these thoughts to begin with.
if anyone has any good sources of reference material, or advice on how to reference things better, or just advice in general, that would be appreciated
and so, between my limited physical ability and my lack-of-understanding of my own desires, i'm really stuck in a rut, i don't really know how to start "properly" doing art, as badly as i want to
my partner's suggested "cleaning up" drawings using line tools, but that kinda feels like cheating to me, not to mention the fact it wouldn't allow me to replicate the kinds of effects i'd like to, anyway.
all i have to draw with (comfortably, without concerns of privacy) is a mouse, and quite frankly, i kinda suck at it. i'm left-handed, but grew up using my computer right-handed, so i've adapted to that, but my precision still isn't great. it's REALLY hard to draw straight lines and smooth curves
i'd LOVE to borrow some stylistic elements from some artists i follow (particularly cherrypillowz/bsky/social), but that would require drawing on a much larger canvas to achieve, which is something that i'm not really capable of doing at the moment
on top of this, i just... don't really have an art style? i've just kinda been mimicking my partner's artwork, because it's what i've been most exposed to, what i know best, and it's simple enough for me to do. it hasn't really left me fulfilled, though, my work feels rather... amateur
i don't have any ocs, i've never really had a use for them, honestly. i could draw my partner, but he has their own struggles with his form (and besides, i'd be really, really shy about asking for direct references). i just do not know what to do
my somewhat fast-and-loose gender identity and self-perception don't help matters, either. some days i'd like to be totally androg with a twinkish body, other days i'd like to rock a chunkier, post-hrt form. what even *am* i, to begin with?
i... don't really know how to find good reference material, in all honesty, so the main reference i can use is myself. but, if my form doesn't quite match what i want to draw, how do i learn the ins and outs of me?
my relationship with my physical body is estranged; it's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not the best, either. do i want to draw myself reflective of that body, an ideal body, or do i mix-and-match?
my sona is a weird middleground between an ordinary sona and a truesona; it reflects elements of both myself and an idealized, more affirming version of myself. this begs the question of: how do i draw anything below the head?
i want to draw, and learn how to do it better, but my main subject matter is myself, and i don't know how to draw myself

Why would someone pay $20k for a robot controlled by a human in a remote location to do things more slowly and clumsily when the median wage for a maid or housekeeper is $33k per year, which is typically spread across 10-20 households?

the reality is that a minimum of 50% of republicans would be overjoyed to let 1/5 of the american population starve if it meant they’d pay $20 less on their annual taxes
If you want to know how it's going in Texas, a GOP county chair just said this.

This is not for a rural county, it's Fort Worth.

one of the most deeply infuriating aspects of american politics is close to half of americans would love if 20% of the country starved to death
