You can use the depth buffer with a bump offset function to mask sprites by depth and conform them to the geometry. This is especially convenient for dynamic fake light, UI elements, character damage effects… #realtimeVFX #UnrealEngine #gamedev #vfx

So I always was a bit sad that nintendo toned down the clouds in Tears of the Kingdom compared to the first teasers⛅

They were so PRETTY- Always wondered how they made them and just had a shower thought yesterday and I'd say I got pretty close hehe!✨

Funny story: Journey had no automatic shadows. I painted them all by hand. The shadow texture was not hi-res. To get the iconic sunset columns to cast sharp shadows, I made sure that they aligned with the pixel grid of the texture. Here you can see the shadow map I painted.

These could probably be better done as post-processing, the shells could be a bit overkill; I've done something like that in the past, this is using depth/normal/color difference and displacing the outline buffer before compositing

@arlostuff.bsky.social About palworld (not defending a side here) but people forget that Palworld is backed by Sony. So it's not so much "small against big company" anymore as Nintendo has their literal rival hiding in the shadows behind Pocketpair, who could definetly turn it into a huge franchise🥷
