An absolute awesome card is upon us this weekend with UFC 322. But something makes Carl (@punchsport.report) question if it will live up to the hype, and what it means for the rest of MMA.

CARL'S FIGHT BREAKDOWNS, EPISODE 165: MOMENTS IN TIME
Carl looks at a genuinely good pay-per-view and analyzes why it still doesn't feel as good as it should.

Having a black belt in jiu jitsu is regularly being used to help spread opinions on topics (politics etc.) far outside the scope of grappling. Which, as you may have guessed, is not a good thing. Eric (@grapplers.win) goes over this in the latest Punchsport Pagoda.

www.fightis.land/p/episode-6-...
Episode 6 - Black Belts and Blind Obedience
Eric has a quick discussion on why just having a black belt doesn't automatically make you an authority, and why critically questioning what they say is good.

Another weekend of UFC fights taking place at the APEX. Carl (@punchsport.report) breaks it all down. However, the real question on all of our minds is the over/under on thrown fights for gambling related reasons.

For two and a half months of being on the road, we got to see actual audiences at the fights, a decent level of production, and a higher amount of effort in matchmaking.

That heavy "sigh" you hear is Carl (@punchsport.report) looking over the card.

There are a lot of black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (and MMA) who like to use their rank to grant them a status of "expertise" on subjects they simply are not knowledgeable in. I like to call this "Mythologizing of Black Belts" and that's what today's piece is about.

Punishing a fighter for not agreeing to stay with a contracted fight when their opponent missed weight by a large margin is, frankly, not something that should be the norm whatsoever.

"[Lightweight] is a division where a genuinely fascinating, exciting matchup between one of the best to ever do it and one of the trickiest grappling prospects in the sport is only happening by mistake because the UFC’s preferred kickboxer couldn’t make it."
