I think it's more likely that they know that the ride will be short and the descent will be harrowing so they're milking it for all it's worth while they can. These look a lot like people pillaging and engaging in some last ditch spiteful arson on their way to the gallows.

Yeah I would have put them on the list of people who absolutely had it coming but "Ceauseucs" would have put me over the character limit, lol. Also in a just world someone would air drop the Assads into any random market in Syria and tell them to find out how fast they can run.

There are fairness issues even if you KNOW they "did it"- would a person of a different gender/race/social class/etc. get the death penalty if they did the exact same thing? If a pretty rich white girl wouldn't hang for it but someone else would, you've gotta ask what exactly is being punished.

I've been horrified my entire life by stories about guillotines and throwing people off cliffs and such, but even I think Mussolini and Gaddafi had it coming, and the last year has definitely given me a lot of food for thought about where the line is where it's reasonable to go "yeah, fuck 'em."

He's made me think that maybe some of the stories about the Roman emperors that I'd chaked up to salacious propaganda actually happened. Like if he made his horse a senator and murdered one of his kids and fucked his sister it might not even make it to the front page of the NYT.
