In 2022, protestors hurled bricks, faeces at police & lit fires. Winston Peters said those protestors just wanted to be "heard" & shook their hands.

This week Peters called the mostly peaceful, law abiding Kiwis outside his home "gutless, spineless, [the] worst" protestors #nzpol
Faeces thrown at police at Parliament protest
Poo was pelted at officers during an early morning operation today to contain the protest at Parliament. The 3.30am operation caught the occupiers off guard with attempts to thwart the plan, resulting...

This has been the vicious fucking thing about the "Jobseeker Benefit" ever since Paula Bennett coined it in 2013

In addition to keeping people in poverty it's been a term of propaganda forcing us all to accept the frame of welfare as economic obligation instead of social support
Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit
The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

Here are 3 ideas to make Parliament reflect Aotearoa better:
1. Hang a copy of Te Tiriti in the debating chamber as a reminder of what is at our foundation.
2. Create space for haka to be performed in the debating chamber.
2. Allow haka from the public gallery with permission.

Very true. The haka is not just used to challenge. It is used to honour, & to support amongst other things. Having it welcomed in Parliament would show we are a truly South Pacific nation not threatened by displays of our indigenous culture. Time we grew up. #nzpol

We live in a Māori nation. Our Parliament should reflect that more. The haka from the public gallery is an appropriate response to a maiden speech. Suspended Parliament only reminds Māori that they are not welcome to be authentically themselves there. #nzpol

Watch: Haka breaks out after Te Pāti Māori MP Oriini Kaipara's maiden speech, Parliament suspended
Speaker Gerry Brownlee intends to investigate whether anyone knew the haka would take place after Te Pāti Māori MP Oriini Kaipara's maiden speech.

This sucks. This sucks SO much. Between this and media studies it's almost like the government of the day fears people who can inquire, question, interpret, and critique visual media. And people who want to learn from history.
They are removing art history from the senior school curriculum. The 2 years of art history I did in the 90s are literally the knowledge I use the most in my everyday life, my career, & for joy.

This is from a comment last night about how this government sets the budgets they then say is not enough.

They literally make the pot…then fill that pot with money…then claim there’s not enough money

They could make a bigger pot, they choose not to
If te Pāti Māori wants a "fuck the regime" member's bill, they could always propose adding "violating te Tiriti o Waitangi" to s73 of the Crimes Act... www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1...

I'd argue once people stopped caring about covid-19 mitigations it really was the start to feeling like "those people don't matter" and "we don't need to do anything to protect others" and "those people's lives aren't as important as my ability to live as I desire to"& it just gets worse from there.
