Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

I've written and posted all my Xmas cards. Never done that before in November in my entire life. They'll be collected on 1 Dec and travel 2nd class. Job done.

I love this. Very Dad.
Wishing you all a wonderful #StAndrewsDay 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This is an appreciation post for my grandfather, who was born in Dunfermline in 1947.

This is him cutting my parents' wedding cake with a saw because the icing was so hard that they couldn't cut it with a knife.

There's something about the articulation of her mouth that makes me switch her off and move on.
Can nobody tone her down?!
Scrapping the two-child cap is both anti-poverty & pro-learning.

Children don’t come to school ready to learn if they live in poverty. Teachers can’t focus on teaching if they’re plugging gaps elsewhere.

What goes on outside the school gates makes a big difference inside them.

Yep. I haven't lost either. Yet my waist and hips are now in the right proportion. Just a bit big!
Even though I haven’t gained a pound in the last 4 months, my muscles are absolutely bigger and more toned.

When in Ukraine years ago I had mashed potato for breakfast, with smoked sausage, fried eggs and pickles. It was stupendous. Every day.
I had potatoes for breakfast.

Time and tradition don't exist this week.

Yes. I loved it.
There’s a body hidden in a creaky old building in this book. If you like that sort of thing then ask someone for this book for Christmas. If not, buy it yourself for someone who is that way inclined.

I block people (usually men) who show off their bodies.
And I groan at photos of food prepared by people who aren't very good at it, but don't know.

He had brain damage and was told he had to be put to sleep.

Today I took Stormzy to run on the beach.

I promise this will set you up for the weekend ❤️

I'm going to have half a bottle of a light red this evening.
So there!
(Haven't been imbibing much recently so things could get quite heady.)

Woman in a car park has just banged her back door open twice and rocked my car! Apologise? Of course not. She says she's trying to get her child in the car.
I might have reminded her that the nation never asked her to stop using contraception.

In Soham today. So many smiling, friendly people.
Thought I'd pop into their library for a wee keek at their choices.
Found Mary Berry's Baking Bible on sale there for a quid!
And there's a very nice Portuguese café nearby, with fresh baked pastries.🥐☕️
After a busy week, Ethel is enjoying herself.

Just started The Fires of Autumn by Irène Némirovsky.
I'd forgotten what a lovely writing style she had, with a sympathetic translation by Sandra Smith.
Classy stuff.

Yes. Give me a good reason why I had to watch my partner's coffin on a webcast?
Let’s never forget rationing ventilators and Zoom funerals. Boris Johnson and his cronies partied while our loved ones lay dying alone. COVID-19 was the worst public health crisis in a century. We should have locked down earlier. To some of us, PPE was not a get-rich-quick commodity.

This appeared on someone else's account but wasn't quotable.

The mark of a man lies in his ability to apologise. To say sorry and mean it.
Boris Johnson didn't apologise to Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, even when she told him in person the lasting impact his comments about her had on her detention in Iran, her husband tells the BBC
