The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.
Going on the world's shortest work trip, but still feel devastated leaving her behind 😭

“ABC7 spoke to Pertissue Fisher, a woman who lives in the building. She said ICE agents took everyone in the building, including her, and asked questions later….’They was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other.’”

It can’t happen here, you say. But it is happening.

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

This is still the reality in DC. Deploying the National Guard to stand around and pick up trash will cost $200 million.

Why can they always find money for guns and wars but not housing and healthcare and food?

*The AI boom = one of the costliest building sprees in world history

* Past 3 years' commitments are greater than the cost of building the U.S. interstate highway system

* Consumers must spend $800 billion on AI within a few years, to justify investment from 2023-24

Our government affairs director, @noelleporter.bsky.social, talked public housing with @monicapotts.bsky.social for @newrepublic.com and how we need to shift our housing system to one that puts people over profit.

ME: Slay the Spire.

CHOTINER: And you play it on the computer?

ME: Yeah. Well, I also have it on my phone. I played another 300 hours.

CHOTINER: And these other games in your Steam library. Have you finished them?

ME: Now hold on a second,

It's not the most important part of the issue but Kavanaugh saying "well they should just sue if they're the victims of excessive force from ICE" when he himself has previously voted to bar lawsuits against federal officers for violations of the 4th Amendment in immigration cases takes chutzpah.

BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California.

Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

To put this into context, the judicial warrant for the search at the Hyundai plant named just four people.

Relying on that warrant, ICE detained nearly 500 people. DHS admitted that included U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and people lawfully here on visas.
This is a paragraph Brett Kavanaugh wrote on his little computer and then sent out into the world:

America lost 7k construction jobs in August, and overall job growth in the sector is now at its worst pace since the pandemic

Over the last year, the US has lost 31k jobs in residential construction and only gained 78k jobs in nonresidential & civil construction
Damnable.

I need people to understand:

1. Every US state already evicts more people annually than all of the EU combined

2. In most states, having a disability, health emergency, or a financial hardship is not a defense to an eviction suit

3. In most states, there is no right to counsel in eviction cases
"Trump is preparing to revoke eviction protections for people living in federal public housing and project-based rental assistance programs."

"[I]n some jurisdictions, people [..] could receive no notice at all before formal eviction procedures begin."
