“Some bands want to be adored. This band doesn’t. They just are.”

As good a description of @radiohead.wastehq.social there ever was.
Radiohead At The O2: A Return That Refused To Beg For Meaning
Radiohead returned to London for their first concert in eight years, transforming The O2 Arena into a masterclass in restraint and precision.

“The familiar consolation of the music rises to a kind of bliss, and private depression climbs to public release, as listeners encounter thousands like themselves.”

Why many of us have always liked @radiohead.wastehq.social.

The always insightful @naomiaklein.bsky.social on surrealism and its aesthetic doppelgänger, fascism.
Surrealism Against Fascism • EQUATOR
A century ago, artists who survived the trenches captured humanity’s capacity for destruction. What can they teach us about confronting the far-right in a new age of genocide?

This is exactly why approval of Democrats is so low among Americans. They hear the Democrats say they are fighting but see that it’s not true…over and over again.

The momentum and positivity of Tuesday’s election results…gone. Squandered in mere days. Pathetic.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

It’s not just the president and his administration who are demonstrating a lack of good character. It’s also the people leading the companies who are donating funds to tear down the East Wing and build the new ballroom.
The destruction of the East Wing is a reminder that America has violated the only check-and-balance that actually ends up mattering: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-only-c...

Maybe the late night comedian isn’t the person who should lose his job.

Maybe the person who should lose his job is the CEO who made a decision against the advice of his senior staff, that resulted in a stock price collapse, and significant loss of customers.
Disney has lost nearly $4 Billion in three days from combined stock price collapse and cancelled subscriptions.

This isn’t meant to be a “both sides” thing. Even if you don’t believe all the data suggesting Gaza was consequential on the outcome of the election, a Democratic Party agile & convicted enough to shift on Gaza is one that would’ve been adaptable in other ways to channel the public and beat Trump.

The Biden-Harris admin deciding that shutting down anti-genocide speech was more worthwhile than shutting down the genocide itself helped lead us to Trump-Vance, which is shredding whatever was left of the “First Amendment” & mockingly revealing how hollow their allies’ commitments to it were

I felt the same!
The Cincinnati Museum Center is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to in my life. Was incredible to set the world aside and walk joyfully through a series of museums for 3 hours.

I think it’s important to note that the president is not allowed to do many things but he’s doing them anyway.

If we’re going to stop the rise of authoritarianism in this country, our federal workers might have to do some things they’re not allowed to do as well.
Important clarification, multiple CDC sources tell me: Federal employees are not allowed to strike/walk out, so this is *not* a walkout but a "clap out" to show support for departing leadership. Current employees were either given permission to attend by a supervisor or used leave time to attend.

Museums have done a lot of good work (with more to be done) to incorporate the perspectives of traditionally marginalized people, and the Trump administration wants to marginalize them again or erase them completely. It's disgusting, and our field shouldn't stand for it.

I don't typically like to spread this guy's bullshit, but since it's about the Smithsonian I'm making an exception. It's also another example of what an open racist Trump is.

It should be completely obvious now if it wasn't before that Trump's team plans to whitewash the Smithsonian.

Already wanting to do to America what Putin suggested he do. Trump isn’t a president. He’s a traitor.
in crazed early morning screed, the president announces "I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we’re at it, Highly “Inaccurate,” Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES"

Please read our statement about the White House's attempts to erase and censor history at federal historic sites and museums. We call out the Trump administration for couching its censorship efforts in the very terms that historians and educators often use to explain their own work.
NPS sites are being forced to remove historical content that the White House views as "negative about either past or living Americans." Read a joint statement by AASLH and other history organizations on the AASLH blog at tinyurl.com/ya39tbsj.

This is an object lesson in the importance of force and violence in politics. ICE is able to flaunt the law because they're willing to use both. Until members of Congress start showing up with breaching teams and armed security, the law is irrelevant. Just a piece of paper.
What are they hiding? You don’t get to slam the door on a Member of Congress during a routine ICE visit. I’ve toured this facility before—so why am I suddenly a “security risk”? My team requested permission. They had no right to deny us. They’re clearly afraid of accountability.

This is all rather bleak. But I do not despair and neither should you. Life will go on. Opportunities for change will emerge. The future is unwritten.

So I'll be following this piece of advice from Alasdair Gray I recently encountered:

Work as if you live in the early days of a better nation.
