I'm holding a green linocut print of a Jack-in-the-Pulpit above my workbench, which has a green cutting mat and various carving and printmaking tools on it. Jack-in-the-Pulpit is a small, curved woodland flower with three large leaves emerging out of its stem behind the flower.

The editors of the nonprofit digital literary magazine Narrative have chosen not to name winners for the 2024 Fall Story Contest, which had offered a prize of $2,500 and publication for a short story, a short short story, an essay, a memoir, a photo essay, a short graphic narrative, or an excerpt from a longer work of prose, as well as a second-place prize of $1,000 and publication. The editors judged. Writers who submitted their work did not receive a refund of the $27 entry fee. (According to the posted submission guidelines, fees “are non-refundable except in the instance of an author inadvertently making a duplicate payment for a submission or when a refund may be granted by the magazine at its discretion in regard of a technological, administrative, or related issue.”) While no winners were named, ten finalists were chosen from the submission pool and awarded $100 each, as listed on Narrative’s contest page.
