Godot 4.6 dev 3 completely overhauls SSR and the impact it's had on the overall visuals in the engine is insane.

You know that Unreal Engine is capable of Forward+ rendering with MSAA right? You can just do that.

It's not an engine problem. Unreal isn't perfect but running dynamic deferred lighting and TAA is a choice. Sometimes a valid one.

Oh hey, my shadow caster mask contribution made it into Godot 4.4.

It should help a lot when you have dynamic lights that you don't want to bleed through walls but don't need them casting more complex shadows!

Art Pipeline Epiphany:

Bake the curvature map for a HotspotUV trimsheet and combine that with a triplanar shader that uses it for edge highlights and you end up with HotspotUV functionality for any tiling texture allowing for super fast variations.
