I am often to be found caring for the unknown dead, who emerge, shattered, from their ancient and forgotten graves. Collecting them, burying them, praying them back to their rest. It makes me think, sometimes, of the transphobic refrain that in a thousand years our bones will somehow betray us.

Not me realising that I am ensuring that there ARE grammatical and informal language used sparingly in job applications, so I don't get accused of using AI to write them. Not sure how I feel about this.

Getting stuck while we're writing is a feature, not a bug. It's the point of the exercise. It's what happens when we are trying to express something we have not expressed before. That friction forces us to make the tools we need to understand and express it. Getting stuck is how we make meaning.

Finding it really hard these days to stay motivated with any career - often feels the moment I'm settled and on the right path something comes along to upend it all. Just... really tired.

OK, I'm going to take the like as a yes.
So, to be clear, this thread hits on three things - dealing with worry, dealing with feeling helpless, and focusing on limited available paths to productively help. Maybe some of this stuff will work for you - all I can say for sure is that it has helped me.

How can it possibly still be January?
Every time I go on X/Twitter through my work account for various reasons, less and less and less I see accounts we follow, and more I see right-wing posts pushed onto the feed, stoking conspiracy and propaganda. I feel gross everytime I come off it.

Spent my first whole day as a (temp) library assistant. I always wind back up in them.
Might be how they were fundamentally sanctuaries for me as a child in a broken home, with supportive adults who listened and encouraged me.
All this to say: Libraries are so, so important.

As we begin to crawl out of the long nights I remember the consternation from people in the USA when I tried to explain that the UK is so far north that in winter the sun sets at 4pm and we get only seven and a half to eight hours of day, but in the summer our days are so long we dont get full night

By far the funniest part of this insane post is that even the maniacs who believe this stuff are so media-pilled they refer to it as a 'leaked photo'. As if God, CEO of Heaven Studios, had included it in a press kit for awards season, but embargoed it til January 27th.

Folks in this thread pointing out that low pay for high experience jobs makes them 'hobby jobs' - things for rich folks to do. When we make the cultural infrastructure of our country a hobby for the rich, we end up with a culture that valorises wealth. It is a political choice, and a dangerous one
My God this salary. I love the British Library, I really do. I worked in the Dept. of Medieval Manuscripts as a curatorial fellow & then as a research associate; I have spent hundreds of hours there as a researcher. And I get it, this is the going rate for such positions in the UK. But Jesus Christ.

Superman's boots never show any fastenings or laces, so they must be rubbery to stretch onto the foot. Essentially, they're either the Supe equivalent of red wellies, or part of the whole costume like a big rubbery onesie.

Which numpty decided to change the Bold shortcut in Word from Ctrl + B to Ctrl + N? It doesn't make sense and now my muscle memory is all out of whack #firstworldproblems
