Holy bulgogi!

I did NOT expect such a surge of followers. If you're just following me for the first time:

I skeet about housing, tech and identity. My biggest pet peeves are modern day segregation and opportunity hoarding along lines of race and class. Esp here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
You know things are bad at the Daily Wire when they send three grown men to report on the Fall of America at McDonalds PlayPlace

I’m at Land Use for the 4th(!) and final hearing on the Family Zoning Plan. It’s mostly NIMBYs here by my eyes but not nearly as full as previous meetings

Today, our new District 4 Supervisor, Alan Wong, was sworn in.

As Sunset residents, we know what our neighborhood needs most after a recall, two ballot measures, and a Supervisor appointee resignation: a leader who can show us the way forward, not work to destroy Sunset Dunes.

NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

Great, I can now look forward to being lectured about "throwing money away on rent" by poor saps saddled with a 50 year mortgage.

The grift game. But it's a water level.
An incident in a locker room has always been key to Riley Gaines’ anti-trans fame.

But @msjpauly.bsky.social spoke to swimmers who were present at the same 2022 meet. They shared a very different narrative.
How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

Wonder if this bodes well for Gen Z being more comfortable with transit.

At Land Use (again) and it's literally all the same people it always is (myself included)...like who are we fooling that the same 75 people showing up every time is "the will of the people"? What a sham public process is sometimes, sadly

If you have noticed the quality of ads on your fav apps has now become a cesspool, it only stands to reason that spammers and scammers are becoming more central to the business model.

People want to avoid ultra-processed foods. But experts struggle to define them
The evidence that ultra-processed foods are bad for us is piling up. But efforts to reduce their role in our diets face a big hurdle: experts can't agree on what they are and which to target.

Perfectly sums up Silicon Valley's moral logic: kill the cyclist to save a life, make machines more situationally humane even if their dominance is what is killing us and the planet.
Wrote about Waymo's co-CEO acknowledging that even she thinks traffic violence is inevitable, what's wrong with aiming for "fewer" road deaths rather than demanding zero, and the way automobility limits our imagination and our empathy.

Waymo said it has a "plan" for when one of the company's cars kills someone. But we should be planning for a world when no car kills anyone — autonomous or not.

Mamdani is a glimmer of hope against a corrupt and feckless dem establishment devoid of ideas.

But word of caution

Mamdani is not proof that everyone, including the entire nation, espouses your particular world view.
