Whenever CBC is on and Because News starts up, I quickly change the radio to anything else. Today on Co-op Radio I caught Faye from Momentum Canada talking about efforts to stop Danielle Smith from her authoritarian crusade against trans people. Donate here

I'm glad he "level set" his misuse of "reactionary" while discussing our "core city." Its like listening to someone read a chain of predictive text input channel no problem at all that you are using the aforementioned vestibule and I will be a.....what a smug doofus
Hey all. If you would like to see this morning's interview with Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, I have attached a YouTube link below.

Vancouver's 2026 draft budget has PASSED.

Approved on a 7-4 vote on party lines, with ABC in favour and councillors Fry/Bligh/Orr/Maloney opposed.

Property tax freeze, $50 million more for VPD, and cuts to Arts, Culture, Planning and Sustainability departments, among others.

Full story to come.

I am trying to describe the BC Ostrich Cult Convoy to our 12-week-old and he wont stop spitting up. This as we want to take him to see his 102-y-o great grandpa in Edmonton but AB is so backward that it soured North America's measels-free designation. And he can't get vaxxed till 6 months.

My theory is that all these serifs got chopped and mislabeled as apostrophes during the Sans Revolution of the 90s, and now autocorrect has some deal to liquidate their stocks through incorrectly changing the possessive pronoun "its" to "it's."

Sort of like those late-season episodes of Foyle's War

why does Sim fear transparency of the city’s budget
Ken Sim (Feb 25 2025): “i think transparency is incredibly important. this is something that shouldnt be feared. we talk about transparency all the time. if we support transparency, I think we support it everywhere. you cant pick and choose.”

I wonder if Brian Montague feels like one of those remote shepherds who values his civic duty and treks across vast expanses and mountain passes to cast a vote in the village for an austerity budget with $50 million (more) for the local cops

Feeling inspired by and grateful to my fellow Vancouver residents today for organizing en masse against a budget so sloppy and craven that anyone else would be fired for presenting it at their work.

Sean Orr has been summarizing every speaker (almost all in opposition) on Ken Sim and ABC's MAGA budget. $50 Million for cops, cuts for everyone else, and a property tax freeze.

Absolute goons. Tacky greedy disingenuous incurious lazy cold-hearted leaches of late-stage capitalism
Continuing budget hearing. Speaker 94: my love for city compels me to speak. I’m angry but also afraid. Increasingly unliveable. Decries lack of transparency. How do we know more from whistleblowers? Claiming that these aren’t cuts isn’t true. Vancouver deserves better

Why have a sustainability and climate dept when instead we can give money to cops and talk on podcasts about pouring pool water over a hypothetical coolant loop at a hypothetical computer that metaphorically mines "coins" with a Shiba Inu on them?

The other cool thing about the Edmund Fitzgerald is that Baby Boomers, Silent Gen, heck even the Greatest Generation somehow had no hangups with her pronouns, even back in the 70s. She was a ship carrying iron ore, called Edmund, and she was the pride of the American side.
