【DB Update】 It's new Episode Comparison time! Let's see what changes there are between the Japanese and English versions of the Orange Islands #anipoke episode "A Tent Situation."

I guess this theory about only being able to use Pokémon who appeared in the Legends Z-A game ended up not being true after all...
Some of the Pokémon choices confused fans in Japan (“Soublades would have been a waaaay better choice for Otr,” “Why didn’t Chinatsu get one of the goldfish Pokémon?,” etc), prompting them to wonder if the manga artists were only allowed to choose Pokémon who appear in Legends Z-A…
【DB Update】 Let's talk about the big #shonenjump & #pokemon collaboration from earlier this month! I go in-depth into all 20 pieces of artwork that were a part of this major crossover event.

You could make the argument that modern day One Piece is very much a merch driven show.
In my @johtotimes.bsky.social interview from earlier this year I brought up the hope that #anipoke will one day switch over from being a yearlong series to a seasonal one, and now that a show as massive as One Piece is making the switch I have renewed hope that it might actually happen someday👍
(I could never work out how to access this version for myself and so that’s why I haven’t really added anything to the site about it yet)
It aired in Taiwan, I believe. And then there’s this:
The show was released on both Blu-ray and DVD so it’s not in any danger of becoming “lost media” or anything like that, but I do get what you mean.

A second season of this would have been really fun.
Today marks the two year anniversary of the TV-Tokyo debut of the very first live action Pocket Monsters TV series “Cram Adventures Into a Pocket,” also commonly referred to as “PokéTsume.”

I honestly don't think they put that much thought into it. The artists probably just went "y'know, orange hair kind of looks good on her, let's go with that" and then called it a day.
This is kind of off topic but a question I've been thinking about with the Brock stuff...

Am I wrong or do you think Misty is meant to have dyed her hair? I'm thinking how most of Gen I have pretty typical standard Japanese haircuts back when Pokemon was most resembling our world
Japanese 7-11 stores have Pokémon branded food now

Still no updates 😥
I check in on this every now and then, and it’s still on hiatus 🥲
【DB Update】 Earlier today it was announced that Kousaku Anakubo's "Pocket Monsters" manga will be going on hiatus for the forseeable future.

Be that as it may, the things you’re pointing neither contradicts or invalidates the point of that paragraph, which is that a lot of Westerners simply do not care about White people being cast as Japanese cartoon characters. That’s still true even if there are also others who *do* care.
Well, the names “Takeshi” and “Iris” don’t exactly scream “Chinese” 😅

As for the “Brock is Black” thing, there actually was a draft of the current write-up that mentioned that little tidbit, but it ended up feeling like distracting non-sequitur and so I removed it.
I’m not sure how it would have made sense to include that in an article dedicated to the reasons why a character got kicked off the show 25 years ago.
Ooh I’ll have to track those down. Any idea what issue/date those were in?
【DB Update】 It's Rumor Guide update time! Today I take a deep dive into the idea that "Brock left the show because the show was afraid Americans would see him as a racist stereotype."

Given the publication date (November 1999) I’m assuming The Memorial Book of Orange Islands was probably the original source. I don’t know of any other place it would have been printed in before that.
【DB Update】 Let's take a look at "The Memorial Book of Orange Islands," a 1999 guide book dedicated to the 30-ish episode #anipoke arc!

Assuming Pocket Monsters (2023) "Rising Again" has its own unique opening theme -- and why wouldn't we assume that? -- that will mean we're soon about to be on OP #7 for this series 😶
New #anipoke VA announcements.
