I agree. I know some non-Christians who are uncomfortable with the religious tenor of Talarico's speeches/beliefs.
I like him and I'm glad he's talking about Christian left stuff and I hope he keeps doing that. But as my son said when we were discussing Jasmine Crockett's announcement, "She's got that fire in her," and I think we need that.
Sorry to this man (James Talarico)

disagree
two things can be true at the same time:

• jasmine crockett is an incredibly weak candidate for u.s. senate in texas

• people who do not live in texas know preciously little about life there

Yeah, she shouldn't do that. On the other hand, Abbott campaigns with "Let's Roll" signs.
jasmine crockett made fun of the sitting governor of texas for being in a wheelchair. you have to willfully stupid to think she will win this senate race

Oklahoman by birth here. The state used to be an anti-establishment place, though god knows I left there 50 years ago. Those OKers need to find their pro-union streak. It's there, as I recall.
This.
I get the feeling a lot of people don’t really know the place and are talking about ideals and norms. Oklahoma doesn’t care. You can be absolute perfection pedagogically and the insulation will still come for you.
The Norman HS English teacher who Walters got fired & stripped of her credential is only just now able to try to start petitioning to be reinstated yrs later.

This is a state where an oil baron literally sat in the gallery & ordered legislators to kill a highly-supported teacher strike.

Come on.

I've been an Immigration Court observer at 26 Fed'l Plaza in NYC & we can't do much but we try to connect people w/ social workers & legal help. We also give children books & small (silent) toys. A former student created this & if anyone is able, children's books in Spanish are welcome.

Beto hasn't announced has he? And as a Texas Dem, Allred (whom I supported last time), was a terrible candidate. Crockett would be a welcome firebrand
NEW: “I am closer to yes than I am no.” Rep Jasmine Crockett

I would absolutely support her. But if Crockett jumps in, someone has to step out. Dems can’t afford three powerhouse candidates running against each other in a state like Texas, let alone four. There aren’t enough Democratic resources.

Her parents owe their lives to the United States accepting them as asylum seekers fleeing religious persecution in Iraq in the 1980s. She wouldn't be here if we had not offered her family safe haven.

The hypocrisy is stunning.
Habba: There were individuals that were saying that this should be a safe harbor, a safe haven. Why? America is America because we protect our own.

Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Great. Fucking. Point.
A U.S. soldier was executed on the streets of the U.S. capital, yet the flags remain at full-staff.

But when a hate-peddling podcaster was killed, the flags were lowered to half-staff within hours—and stayed that way for days.

WTH?

Tonight...

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

A chapter in Hegseth’s book is literally titled “More Lethality, Less Lawyers.”
