if you think the poster may not understand their own post, ask yourself if they’re making a joke.

An easy way to explain why USPS isn't supposed to turn a profit:

Whole Foods basically only opens stores in zip codes where the median home value is $500k and median income $75k.

Imagine if your mail worked the same way Whole Foods does.

30 years ago, we did. They were called "local newspapers."

Then the Telecom Act of 1996 allowed essentially unlimited corporate consolidation of media outlets and they killed off local news in the space of a single generation.
Imagine if we had a newsroom in every county that focused on municipal meetings.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re thinking of starting a newsroom in your community, you should do it.

Over the past few years, Brittany has noticed the resurgence the R-word - a word that otherwise left the cultural lexicon. And while that's troubling in and of itself, its return may also have larger ...

Hi!

I have a question.

I finished a collected edition with 3 individual books in it. I logged this version. So I did read 3 books but it only counted as 1 toward my reading goal for the year.

Is there any way to change that without just logging the books individually instead?

This isn't due to anything specific, but I do want to say;

If you are telling artists or creatives to make weirder and more unmarketable art, it is in fact your obligation and duty at that point to promote/pass around/support those creatives when they *do* make that weirder art. Otherwise we can't!

the republication of the letters of Emily Dickinson is covered in this article, for which you'll need to register for a free account; you should do that if the subject interests you at all.

A new collection of Emily Dickinson's letters reveals them to be a major literary achievement, related to her poems and perhaps exceeding them in experimental energy.

The part of George Orwell’s 1984 that everyone forgets is how the music and publishing industries have been replaced by a machine that spits out songs and bad novels “without any human intervention.” The goal is to keep you from ever having to think.

Xander could have been written off in Teacher’s Pet (s1e4)

Buffy told him not to go to the teacher’s house. She told him that’s not a human that’s an insect-type demon she’ll kill you and he ignored her and went anyway.

If she didn’t go save him he’d just be gone.

The end.

One way to resist? Read more, use the library, buy from local bookstores, post reviews, talk about the books you're reading, read banned books. Anything to do with reading, and books, they seem to hate. Stay educated, and continue reading.

one of my favorite games is currently free on Steam

you download a game in which the first person you meet knows she’s a character in a video game and that you’re the player (yes it’s very meta) and something is killing the other NPCs and destroying the game
