The passing of Paul Newman (2008), Sean Connery (2020), Sidney Poitier (2022), and now Robert Redford (2025) signals the slow disappearance of a certain type of 20th century figure: men who embodied classic style in a way that reflected their taste, rather than a professional stylist.

In middle school I wrote a paper about Hubble that earned me a trip to Huntsville to visit the Space Center. This was years before it finally launched. I’ve always been fond of that space telescope!
Happy 35th Birthday Hubble!

What a great time to remember how a small investment in science can inspire a generation.

Quirky shows I have enjoyed recently: Mickey 17 (Robert Pattinson) and The Bondsman (Kevin Bacon).

In case you need a distraction!

I had a hard time finding women physicists here. So I made a starter pack for #female and #under-represended #minorities in #physics, in short #FURMIP.
Please spread the word and
let me know if you would like to be added.

As a former early 90s indie book store associate (hello Booksellers of Cleveland Heights!) I've not loved B&N but I'm intrigued with the new CEO focusing them on books and people who read them (!) and stores trying localized tactics on a shoestring, branding be damned. Hope it works out.
Barnes & Noble Sets Itself Free
As the bookstore chain mounts a comeback, it’s breaking a cardinal rule of corporate branding and store design: consistency.
