I can only speak for Draw Steel, but the idea behind this was to make every level exciting and the things you get at each level impactful. If we did that for 20 levels, we would have to cut half the classes in the book in order to keep it at 400 pages.
What is with so many of the games that are trying to be a more original D&D alternative (Daggerheart, DC20, Draw Steel...) deciding to have less character levels?

Ive run a few sessions of Draw Steel now and Im thinking it might become my game of choice its just so much fun. So snappy from what Ive seen so far. We played the other game tonight and it really cemented how fun I find Draw Steel comparatively.

Draw Steel downtime is fun on its own. 2 players rolled the same event so now fairies have a presence in Sealton Heath. I'll figure out why next time. Then, the eclipse happened.

This was all Respites in the #DrawSteel Codex VTT. The rolled events made for delightful surprises as the players set their own goals, from crafting Magic Items to learning a new recipe. Then they rolled a solar eclipse.
