This is Trump “not touching“ the East Wing of the White House. Remember this the next time Trump says he won’t touch Social Security.

This is it exactly.

Also, none of us is experts in everything so just apply this generally. If experts in the field are being silenced/ignored by non-experts making policy about it, it’s being politicized or becoming propaganda.

Public health
Psychology
Economics
History
Every field
If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.

The absurd level of crime panic in this country in incredibly safe suburban neighborhoods is actually creating more violent crime. A woman with a mop ringing your doorbell in the morning isn’t a fucking home invasion! People need to calm the fuck down!
A woman was fatally shot after she & her cleaning crew mistakenly went to the wrong address. She leaves behind 4 children, including an 11-month old.

Indiana is one of about two dozen states that has a "shoot first" or "stand your ground" law. It’s a license to kill that makes all of us less safe.

The shooting victim died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner's office said.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Compare this fecklessness to Mitch McConnell's ability to keep his caucus organized. @schumer.senate.gov is a true failure as a leader.
What do you call a leader with no followers? Just a guy taking a walk.

He's not just a senator. He's the *leader*. His job isn't his personal vote. His job is to unify and lead his caucus against the regime.

Can you call Chuck Schumer right now? No matter where you live, can you take a few minutes and tell Schumer that if Senate Democrats cave you will not support Senate Dems as long as he is leader?

Imagine if Democrats relentlessly hammered him in these moments instead of assuming nothing will ever stick to him. Imagine if we demanded that Republicans answer why the President is throwing Gatsby parties and calling football plays instead of negotiating. Nah, we should definitely fold instead.

If only Democratic voters could bring a class action political malpractice lawsuit against elected Democrats.
in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

Democrats are really the masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I left Senator Schumer a very *honest* message letting him know what I think of his latest gambit to give the fascists everything they want in exchange for… nothing.
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I've defended establishment democrats a lot, as a lot of what they do has some justification, but this is my own breaking point. There is literally no good reason to cave now after holding on for so long. Either cave right away so people don't suffer for no reason, or ACTUALLY hold the damn line.
Glad we've taught the Trump administration that starving 42 million people and disrupting air travel is how they get whatever they want, though. Good precedent with 3 years left in this nightmare.

Trump is trying to starve hungry kids in order to bully Democrats into abandoning our fight against health care premium increases.

So Trump is starving kids in order to deny families health care.

Saying that families shouldn’t have to choose between paying for healthcare and buying groceries is kind of a cliche of Dem rhetoric but that’s literally the choice that Republicans are forcing w cutting off SNAP vs letting Obamacare premiums skyrocket. You can eat or go to the doctor but not both.
