I was a teacher for almost 30 years and in NY-22 we love our public schools, our teachers, and we want every student to succeed.

The administration's attempts to dismantle the Department of Education are misguided and illegal - and you can count on me to fight it every step of the way.
As I have said all along - I will not support a funding package that fails to address skyrocketing health care costs, leaves my constituents vulnerable to unbearable premium hikes, and fails to rein in the lawlessness of the Trump administration.

We need bipartisan negotiations and real solutions that ensure proper funding for critical programs like HEAP. No one should play politics with heating assistance – this is a matter of health, safety, and basic human dignity.

Every parent of a child with disabilities knows how hard they fight — for resources, for fairness, for dignity.

They deserve a representative that fights just as hard alongside them.

I spent part of the day calling constituents directly to share updates on my work to lower costs and reopen the government — and to hear what matters most to them: affordable health care, supporting our military and veterans, and strengthening education.

Firing public servants during a government shutdown is cruel, unnecessary, and inflicts pain on working families.

It does nothing to bring the sides closer to a bipartisan solution that reopens the government, and it may violate collective bargaining agreements and federal labor laws.

Since Watergate, both parties have recognized that using the Department of Justice to punish political opponents crosses a dangerous line. The justice system must never be weaponized for revenge — that’s the path to autocracy and authoritarianism.

Members of Congress should play by the same rules as others across our federal workforce – if members of the military and our TSA agents are forced to work without pay, so should we.
