To add to this thread which you should read if you're interested in the business of writing, I am a NYT Bestseller. I technically make a living from Hood Feminism, though I wouldn't say I make a great living from it. I earned out a 6 figure advance in my first year, and have sold almost 400K books
You can see from this how it's possible for a writer to be a bestseller and not earn a living. I've hit bestseller lists in the UK with 2.6k sold in a week, fewer in Canada. In the US, I think it's 5k+? (I haven't done that yet.) A good start but a far cry from the 22,000 you need to make $50,000.

This is a BFD if y'all know Georgia politics. The GOP had a strangle hold on the a public service commission who have been giving big data centers a free ride with the average Joe paying massive increases to subsidize them.
