a real tell in all of this is that the trans instructor wasn't alone in trashing this essay! a whole other person also said they agreed completely that it sucked. but as far as i can tell only the trans person is getting punished. www.oklahoman.com/story/news/e...

The Venn diagram of people who ask why anyone still wears a face mask in 2025 & people who just kind of blankly stare at me and don't know what to say when I tell them that the last time I had the flu, it gave me Celiac disease and now I can't eat gluten without going to the ER- is a circle.

“The problem with Long COVID is that most of society would rather not see it.”

@philipandrewhoover.bsky.social writes that he often feels that he’s living a double life. How can this sick side of him be so central, so enormous, yet so unseen by those who know and love him? bit.ly/4pf80g7

All 50,000 panels of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt has been fully digitized.

You can search Duane's name and see the panel he made. And someone else made a panel for him, too.

Disabled people were one of the first groups targeted by the Nazis.

They coined the term “useless eaters”.

They tested the gas chambers on us.

They knew most people wouldn’t fight to save our lives.

That’s why the President using the R slur is so dangerous.

We’re not expendable

i’m genuinely so convinced all of this has been a planned operation by the student and her mother (who is commenting on this publicly, and associated closely with the republican party), and big far right propaganda account going all in on it. this is designed to oust trans people from public life

"the essay sucks ass" is no doubt true, couldn't be bothered to read it, but consider that the essay may have been written to receive an F in order to instigate a campaign against the trans TA. in any case it's not a great dunk because this isn't about the essay, it's about purging trans ppl

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

one of the problems I have with Democrats (and other critics) labeling these "war crimes" is that it accepts the underlying claim that the people being murdered are enemy combatants. They're not! it's just murder!
Fox News' Joey Jones justifies the US military killing survivors after an initial boat strike: "An enemy combatant does not have to have a gun to be a danger or a threat... if you leave anybody alive, they can signal and let others know what’s happening and they can also retaliate through radio."

This is very good. I like to remind people that headlines in the 80s would (regularly!) talk about people who drank lattes or ate sushi as exotic, self-indulgent yuppies with obscure tastes. Media constantly made fun of “haute cuisine” meals with tiny portions because fine dining was bad.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

When the two-part miniseries Anne of Green Gables debuted on CBC on Dec. 1, 1985, nearly six million Canadians tuned in. It went on to win 10 Geminis, an Emmy and a Peabody.
To this day, the miniseries is studied in film schools.
This is the story of that miniseries.
