Not many people would describe a 400MM lens + 1.4x extender as the ideal portrait setup but that very much depends on your subject.

Dear #SecretSantaAoNZ elves, worry not, I have all the bits for my giftee, I just couldn't get to the post shop today (gah, work things). I'll post it first thing tomorrow, I promise. (Sorry to my giftee who must be worrying).

I am once again asking folks not to repost every single post in a long thread, and especially not to do it in the order they're reading. A whole screen full of an extended argument that I've already read is bad enough. All that plus backwards makes me want to mute either the poster or the reposter.

I WFH so I get through a lot of caffeinated beverages at home. Black tea, preferably earl grey or flavoured. Coffee, likewise flavoured (espresso machine grind), I do drink alcohol but it's hard to post that! no soft drink except tonic with my gin. #SecretSantaAoNZ
Some people have already covered this in other posts, but for the Santas that need to know specifically.
What are your go-to-drinks? Your tasty beverages FOR MORALE?

Each of us only has about 4 hours of braining in us per day. Honest.
What's hilarious is that competent programmers, as well as people studying programming for the very first time, know that all code you write after about 4 hours is garbage. Totally useless, none of it worth salvaging.

Actual programmers hear "I coded for 36 hours" and hear "I gooned for 36 hours"

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

This is a really good point by Jaide. I was probably not helpful to my Santa by saying "oh get me anything"..... So, here are some other things that bring me joy: native birds (helping real ones, stuff with pictures of them on it), plants and flowers, watercolour painting, chocolate.

A reminder that we have many different types of people playing the game. Some love the sleuth, some love the hunt for the perfect gift, some need the validation of knowing they're on the right track.
This is one reason I do the questions to help people get to know you -

(I thought I'd done some! but without the hashtag, my bad). Honestly I'll be happy with anything, I just like being involved. But, here goes: I have no allergies. I like scented things that don't go on my body (so, candles etc). I WFH and like desk trinkets and tea. I have two cats who like toys.
Not to come across as pushy, @carorolyn.bsky.social. Secret Santa would like you to do a Tweet with some likes, dislikes, allergies, interests. Please use #SecretSantaAoNZ so that they can find it! Oh, and what is your favourite colour? [Sent by 🤖]

One thing I love about Menswear Guy is that his analysis, while grounded in appearance, often comes back to character. I love his threads. (Read this one up and down).
This reminds me of Cardinal John Henry Newman's book Definition of a Gentleman. I often cite Newman's book because it's so instructive. The term gentleman is so overwrought and frequently abused, but to the degree it means anything at all, I think Newman captures it here:

Are you using AI, as a professional? Check your insurance cover, because a lot of the big insurers are about to pull out of insuring it. Which means that if you let it write your stuff or control your operations, you are potentially personally liable for its errors...
“Insurers increasingly view AI models’ outputs as too unpredictable and opaque to insure, said Dennis Bertram, head of cyber insurance for Europe at Mosaic. “It’s too much of a black box.”

8675309 is prime, and so is 8675311, so if you ever need a middlin'-large pair of adjacent primes to test your cryptographic suite, all you need is a 1980s earworm and a +2 and you're all set.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share
