- Raised $250 million from billionaires for a ballroom
- Gave Qatar an Air Force facility in Idaho
- Doubled Argentina's bailout to $40 billion

it’s absurd that NYT forced him to delete these skeets, which … convey the factual information that Zohran Mamdani is, in fact, a man of South Asian descent who was born and raised in Africa, and that the pseudonymous source of the hacked material is a white supremacist eugenicist.

Double Nickels on the Dime is the third album by the punk rock band Minutemen, which was released as a double album on July 3, 1984 and deals, among other things, with the Vietnam War and racism in America

It is difficult to describe just how disastrous it would be if just-released NOAA budget proposal (or even large portions) were to be enacted: It would involve a wholesale dismantling (decimation, really) of entities relevant to weather, climate, & ocean research & prediction.
waay fun thread
Speaking of labyrinthine contortions, though, here's a little thread of some of my favourite viz over the years.
But, not counting the hydra-like debts that spout up from time to time, I basically got my wish. Thanks everybody, I literally could not have done it without you all.

"Social media does not turn a bad candidate into a viable one. It’s just amplification. And the same platforms that can amplify the ugliness and hatred and resentment of someone like Trump can amplify the joy and earnestness and seemingly genuine conviction of a candidate like Mamdani."

One factor in the Panthers getting so much out of Sam Bennet in this year's playoffs is that they stapled him even more tightly to Matthew Tkachuk.

I’m pretty sure most politicians and busybodies say “crime” to actually mean any visible poverty
I always despair for democracy seeing that any dipshit can say "crime is skyrocketing" and people just go along with it. The data doesn't show this. There's no goddamned evidence for it except the bullshit people get fed from TV. I have no idea how to break this.
Next up is Andrew Cuomo. He says the election is "fairly simple."

"The city is in real trouble, crime, homelessness, etc. Who can actually make gov work? Who can get the garbage picked up, who can get the mentally ill off the streets, who can make the city safe? "

🤩galactic time series analysis here we come
Very cool first images from the Vera Rubin Observatory in Chile. But the real science contribution will not be images of galaxies, it will be a "synoptic" survey - scanning the sky repeatedly every few nights. Opening up time-domain astrophysics in an unprecedented way.
Oh wow!

Look it!

First new images from @vrubinobs.bsky.social!

These are stunning 😍

the reason these trucks look “silly” is that they have large windshields and a low hood, which increases visibility and reduces risk to pedestrians.

trucks like this should look normal and F-150s should be the silly ones
The new EVs have had problems. And they do look very silly.

Selling them off would set USPS back a decade — it’d cost billions of dollars, and the current fleet of gas-guzzlers are frankly dangerous to drive.
The Postal Service’s electric mail trucks are way behind schedule
Defense contractor Oshkosh had only delivered 93 trucks by November — compared to 3,000 expected by now. The delays put Biden’s climate goals at risk.

i'm really amazed at the complete dearth of public bathrooms these days. sorry if i'm under a rock but is that correlated with some safety/guise of anti homelessness/anti blight type of policies over the last 20 years or smth? i thought fs there were a lot more when i was a kid..
