Don’t shop Amazon.
Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Minority representation on TV causes outrage

From the new Private Eye, in shops now.
Priti Patel was the master of performative politics under performative maestro Boris Johnson. Make continuous policy announcements, ensure Telegraph, Mail and Express (and therefore BBC) run with the stories, but do nothing tangible except think about the next meaningless policy announcement.
Will you actually do your job as a journalist and probe the policy vacuum at the heart of Reform, and their total inability to implement , whether Danny Kruger participates or not?

Property ownership is a different legal proposition to residence. There is no law that links them and gives you that right. Just get a visa!
It also means « stuffing «  as in food. I think the Mail should get stuffed
Owning a property in the EU does not give you a legal right to reside there or indeed stay over the limits applied to any third country. I have British friends with a residence in France, and they have a visa that allows them to stay beyond the 90/180 limits. Do the same!
It’s incredible to think that less than a decade ago, the Conservatives - like them or hate them - were a mainstream political party. Cameron’s « swivel eyed loons » are now firmly in charge. Brexit has destroyed them.
Looking at the behaviour of the last few (Labour and Conservative) Home Secretaries, I’m convinced that there is some kind of ultra nationalist lobotomy operation as they take office, which is then reversed when they leave.
Why would anyone want this? Populist politicians would, because the simple message « let’s kick out low wage immigrants » is one that their supporters understand, and none of said supporters has the desire (or the intellectual staying power?) to wade through a 10 part nuanced social media post.
Which begs the question: if the UK starts kicking out foreign pensioners, what about, say, the half a million or so Brits living in Spain, a large proportion of whom are retirees, and what would the impact be on the NHS of all these old people coming back to live in the UK?

Much gratitude to Marianna Prysiazhniuk and @euromaidanpress.bsky.social for this in-depth article describing it all about Georgia, also featuring my interview.

Sharing with a little delay. Apologies.

Despite mass arrests and rainy, windy weather, Rustaveli Avenue remains blocked for the 327th consecutive day. 🇬🇪

Around two dozen protesters are currently in jail for blocking the avenue. Repeated “offenses” can lead to up to two years in prison.

As a sign of solidarity with the German Ambassador and Finland’s Foreign Minister, German and Finnish flags are front and center on Rustaveli Avenue today. 🇩🇪🇫🇮🇬🇪
That's the problem with populists. They seek to please by being "popular" but never seem to have the skills required to govern. The exemplar was Boris Johnson.
Just wait until the « settled status » of a million or so aged UK immigrants in the EU were to be revoked in response, with the impact on the NHS and care sector. Not even Farage would go through with such idiocy.
In my country (France) gambling is strictly controlled. I assume that in the UK those controls were eroded and eventually emasculated by gambling industry corruption - oh - sorry - lobbying - by the gambling industry. Apologies if my cynicism is misplaced.

Well this is a proper head scratcher.
But yeah, fiddling around with tax and getting rid of consumer protections should sort it.
Wonder what those ‘former chancellors and prime ministers’ had to say about this shitshow. Any mention of Brexit at all??

(Times and Private Eye)
After the stewardships of May, Johnson and Truss, the Conservatives were in intensive care. Badenoch has sent them straight to the hospice, en route to the mortuary.
It seems that brexiteers are furious about getting everything they were promised during the referendum campaign.

Hilarious but tragic. Farage is now making promises that will turn out the same if enough people are silly enough to vote for his company.
