i'd push back and say that the movie isn't a political tract, and assessing the baked-ness of it politics is a distraction. it's a deeply personal movie by an artist reckoning with his ambivalence about creating art as a black man in America. there's politics in that, but it's not reducible.

I can't imagine campaigning on this, but if grave breaches become operational policy and other war crimes are routinely pardoned when/if prosecuted, joining the ICC seems much more reasonable than my previous belief that we'd hold our own accountable.
