The Emperor's Twin, by @benegotherit.bsky.social (pub by Talos Press) is a quite different proposal, a great dark space opera novel that uses its weirdness as a way to shine, delivering a worthy experience.

Has come to my attention that someone is impersonating me on this app. Probably just trying to take my Pizza Hut points or something but in case it’s sinister do be careful — this isn’t me

Deeply melancholic work of art, it doesn’t believe in itself at all. Couldn’t trust itself to be understood without stating its own reference

Finished Midnight Stories by Su Tong, tr Honey Watson. Loved these stories – full of the crazy energy of peasant life. Crude, funny & full of horse sense. A strong storytelling sensibility at play – no mood pieces or half ideas that evaporate. Solid memorable hits. Pub @sinoistbooks.bsky.social

yesterday, read @benegotherit.bsky.social's Lessons in Birdwatching end to end while traveling. delightfully nasty scifi that starts in "grad school sucks" territory and quickly unravels with escalation that reminds me of Gibson. recommended for those of us who like where "bad" protagonists take us!
