I am grieving on #Juneteenth. My cousin Tai died on Sunday in a hospital room where dignity was absent and compassion was optional. She was 53.

This is what freedom delayed still looks like for Black families in America.

Tai deserved better. We all do.

When Ella was 2 I made a decision to live as my full queer self. I gave my daughter the gift of a mother who honors truth. She graduates w. that truth. I raised her in the midst of religious condemnation, economic abuse, and emotional isolation. Yet I still raised her with light freedom & options.✊🏾

This grant represented a critical effort to address the ⬆️ rates of maternal & infant mortality in the US, particularly among Black mothers & babies
