“There is another alphabet, whispering from every leaf, singing from every river, shimmering from every sky.”

~ Dejan Stojanović (b. 1959)

#Painting by Matazō Kayama.
We had a great crowd for the first-ever poetry reading in Humboldt by Asian American poets on Sunday!

“Ink to Paper” featured original #poetry by seven poets: Mark Shikuma, Shizue Harada (poems read by Amy Uyeki), Daryl Ngee Chinn, Libby Yee, Tony Wallin-Sato, Paul Michael Atienza and me.
I’m sharing #haiku and art at the Ink to Paper #poetry reading at the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka, CA this Sunday at 2!

This weekend is a celebration of local Asian American culture, with a Chinatown street festival, group art show, opera and poetry reading. More: makinostudios.com/blog
“Winding River” is one of six #collages I have on view as part of the group show of Asian American artists at the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka, CA right now! The official opening is this Saturday, May 3, 6-9 p.m. during Arts Alive. Hope to see some friends there!

The ukiaHaiku Festival, held in Ukiah, CA, was such a nice event! I gave a keynote about my haiku journey, the elements of effective haiku, haiku-related forms and why we write haiku. People of all ages and walks of life shared their #haiku amid live music and good spirits.
Happy to support #independentbookstoreday today! This is Northtown Books in Arcata, CA.

The 23rd annual ukiaHaiku Festival takes place on Sunday, April 27, 2-4 at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah, CA. I’m honored to be the keynote speaker, a cool twist for a Ukiah High grad! I’ll have a Makino Studios table with books etc.
