I may have almost died this week but that wasn't gonna stop me from being funny about it
a tumblr screenshot: Kerrigan Is Deeply Unserious Even in a Life-Threatening Situation Highlight Reel: 1. When I was on the phone with the 911 dispatcher trying to ask for an ambulance (because I was possibly dying of a ruptured brain aneurysm) I threw up some pizza I'd eaten earlier and you gotta understand I had been craving pizza for WEEKS and FINALLY got to eat some so I was DEVASTATED when I puked up all my goddamn pizza and I went "ooougghh" and the dispatcher must've thought I was in pain and I was but I really was just mourning my lost pizza 2. Started giggling in my first ambulance ride to the local hospital because "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback was playing on the radio and one of the EMTs thought it was a Symptom. at that point I wasn't really coherent enough to talk but I definitely had the thought "if it is a symptom it's not one I'm experiencing, pal." I say this lovingly as a Nickelback fan but like. Come on. 3. When my first CT scan came back and they found the brain bleed, like three nurses came into my room to get me prepped to be rushed to Cleveland Clinic via ambulance and I went "shiiiit it must be serious, I just got real popular all of a sudden." (one of them laughed and was like "if we'd known you were coming we would've baked you a cake", shoutout to that guy for matching my stupid fucking energy.) 4. Alternatively when I was in my second ambulance ride getting rushed to Cleveland they didn't turn on the lights or sirens and I went "okay nevermind I guess it's NOT that serious if we're stopping for traffic lights" 5. Other jokes I made in the clinic: Having to do the 'touch your nose and touch the nurse's finger' cognitive test and after doing it like the 30th time in 2 days I was like "well, am I safe to drive, Officer?" I had to do the assessment every hour or so for the first day I was there and after a while when a nurse would come in to test me again I'd say shit like, "I have a good feeling about this one, I've been studying!" the screenshot, continued: 6. The first time I had to pee I wasn't allowed out of bed so they gave me the option of a bedpan or an external catheter. I opted for the external cath cuz it sounded less embarrassing and like something I could keep on in case I had to pee more than once but it ended up feeling so strange that I physically could not release my bladder and when the nurse came back in after giving me a few minutes of privacy I, under the strain and duress of someone who was clearly full to bursting with saline, was like "Nope, too weird, fetch the pan." 7. Immediately after peeing in the bedpan they had to clean me up (cuz, again, I wasn't allowed to move on my own) and I said "You think you're a fully functioning adult and then one day someone's wiping your butt when you're 34." 8. The angiogram they needed to do to determine if I was still actively bleeding kept getting delayed because of more emergent patients coming in and my various nurses kept apologizing and I kept having to assure them that "I have never been more grateful NOT to be considered a priority." 9. Making an actual honest-to-god poggers face when offered my first oxycodone and having to fight every inch of my soul not to make drug-seeking behavior jokes lest I get in trouble for real. 10. Saying "thanks, but it was really a team effort" every time I was told I did good during a procedure. Honorable Mention cuz it wasn't my Funny but I can't leave it out: The hospital chaplain stopped by my unit as I was waiting for my discharge paperwork to make rounds and he introduced himself and explained what he was there for and I told him I was actually on my way out so I was good and he laughed and went, "Oh, then I guess my work here is done!" the screenshot, continued: there's an embedded screenshot with a hashtag that says "I guarantee you were a hit with the nurses". My reply reads: oh yes I was repeatedly called a delight of a patient, which brings us to another honorable mention from one of the nurses who mentioned that, to be fair to the other (unfunny) patients, it was pretty rare to have someone in the neurology ICU who is like, conscious and lucid. so like yes I was the funniest patient but I was also the funniest patient in the coma ward. not really a fair fight.

it took over an hour but I have successfully eaten my first entire meal since going to the hospital!

I doordashed some chicken soup and biscuits and gravy, a combo I am calling the Soup n' Slop. it hit precisely how I needed it to but I also feel like I ate a bus now lmao.

finally filling out my disability application and the irony is not lost on me that I have to keep taking breaks because of how badly the joints in my arms hurt

and that it took me a month longer than planned to get to this paperwork at all because I spent all of November in a fatigued fugue state

idk what to tell y'all I'm not happy about being unemployed and broke and sick, either. I would also like it to not be this way. that's kind of what I thought the welfare system was designed to assist with.

I really enjoy bullet journaling but I've been having a generally hard time with all things in the physical world and just haven't had the stamina (or money tbh) to keep an irl bullet journal. so, I've been compromising with a notes app, and I do find that it's been really helpful.

accidentally blew through this entire book in like two days, really enjoyed it. it fell a little flat in places for me but I've yet to run into an android character study I didn't thoroughly enjoy and this was no exception.

just finished The Dark Forest for book club and man, what an incredible story. pacing felt a little sluggish in spots and I don't think Noel Martinsen's translation work is quite as good as Ken Liu's but it was still nearly impossible to put down. can't wait to read the next one.

TIL it takes six hits with the bug net to piss a villager off enough that they'll stop fishing in the river you're trying to fill in and let you push them far enough out of the way that you can build cliffs to cut them off from coming back to the area where you're working.

just finished the playtest of Haunted Paws with a friend and it was really good! great co-op, just the right balance of silly and spooky. still pretty buggy but nothing I wouldn't expect from something still in development. I'm really looking forward to its release now!
