"PITY THE NATION"
Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Pity the nation whose people are sheep
And whose shepherds mislead them
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves ...
Trump came up twice - exactly twice - during Friendsgiving yesterday.

Both times we caught ourselves falling down the hole and as one we turned to discussing something else. Made it a lovely night for all. (OK, my guy thought the hair dye and styling convo went on far too long, but - anyway.)

Absolutely. Doing this remotely with drones or bombs is no different than pulling up in a boat and shooting them in the water. If this isn’t an illegal order, hard to imagine what could be.
And unlike some of the finer questions of “was the president’s inherent Art 2 powers in play”, shouldn’t offing people who are hors de combat be clearly known to be an illegal order all the way down the line to the lowest Seaman?

When a 22-year-old white man was accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, did the Trump regime investigate all the 22-year-old white men in the country? Or is collective punishment only a thing we do to people of non-European descent?

And unlike SCOTUS, international courts aren't owned and operated by the GOP. Imagine actually being held to account!

Yes, every one of them.

Including those who've served with honor, retired, moved on into Congress, and are facing an inquisition for trying to protect the Constitution. Him, too.
My heart goes out to the families, loved ones, & National Guard impacted by this tragic shooting. All our military deserves & needs our support no matter where they are deployed.

By 3 p.m., D.C. police said they had one suspect in custody.

I used to work clinic defense at Planned Parenthood. The sheer number of Bible-waving, shouting crap-heads across the street who ended up sneaking their daughters in our back door for abortions would make you weep.

In France, a doctor will come to your hotel if necessary. You're not covered by the country's publicly-funded health care, so you gotta pay out of pocket. That will cost you (drumroll, please ... ) about $38 bucks, plus whatever meds you need.

Damn commies.

I wish I could stop shopping at Starbucks. But I've been quietly boycotting them for years for being a shitty, predatory corporation - chasing out mom and pop coffee shops, exploiting workers. All I could do now is egg their windows.
No contract, no coffee.

We don’t believe in sitting on the sidelines. Join our Transition co-chair @linamkhan.bsky.social , First Deputy Mayor Dean Fuleihan & @sbworkersunited.org at the picket lines.

Lots of people think this is fine: manly, bold, “genuine,” “telling it like it is.“. Lots of people will approve.

Shitty people, shitty values, shitty culture.

I'm so glad for the outcome - so happy for the owners.

OTOH, I totally get where the cat was coming from.

So excited to host Christmas dinner this year. Gathering so many recipes! Tortellini im brodo, timbale, porchetta, struffoli, biscotti ai pinoli ...

Of course, I know how this works. I'll get less and less ambitious as the weeks pass, and we'll probably end up calling out for pizza.

When the history books are written, vaccine "skepticism" (asshole idiocy), gutting of enviro regulations, and so many more things will be tallied as the most harmful. The damage of retreating to outdated concepts of gender, proven harmful again and again, is so much more insidious. But it kills.

Cocktail-induced smirking.
Pete Hegseth says Trump has asked him to add 500 more National Guard troops to Washington D.C.

It's unclear why he seems to be smirking throughout much of this.

I always say that it's better to hold off on blaming a particular political side for an act of violence. Here's why I'm blaming today's national guard shooting on the woke left.

In an online discussion about why we use the word "murder" in such narrowly defined terms. Pull a gun and shoot someone dead: murder. Deny medical coverage, put out false info about basic science, prioritize profit over safety - still deliberate decisions, people die en masse, but: not murder. 1/
