Science Fiction and Fantasy writer who likes to imagine what the world could be like because I believe that the first step to getting somewhere is believing it can exist.
There is a style of how to books out there that tell you what to do, but give absolutely no advice on how to do it.
It kind of makes me want to write a mystery novel except it just ends after the murder.

Finished "I know why the Caged Bird Sings" this morning. It never gave me what I expected, but it made me feel like I was there and I want more.
But I'm still not sure why the caged bird sings.

I only write when I am inspired. Fortunately I am inspired at 9 o’clock every morning.

Georgia's Medicaid work requirements: $2,490 per person. Regular expansion: $496 per person. We pay 5x more to prove people "deserve" healthcare than we would to just give it to them.
If it's not about saving money then what do they really want?

People can change and they can change for the better.
If you don't believe that it says more about you than anyone else.

You can get a copy of my short story "Escape to Earth's Wonders" and a digital signature free this week.

Echo chambers are bad. Even yours.
I know it's nice to hear people support your beliefs, but you can find people who disagree with you who aren’t spreading lies or being stupid if you put in the effort.

Nothing frustrates me more than people who try one thing that doesn’t work and then decide it’s impossible. That’s not failing. That’s quitting without even trying.

Before you write your novel write a short story or two with the characters. I find I never really know what a character is like until I've written something. And if it's good it makes a fun extra for readers.

Most days it feels like following the news does nothing but make me angry.
I think the need for content has simply made it so there is too much.

My story “The Weight of What Isn’t Said” is free this week. A story about the weight of lies, even when they're told to help people.

The problem with people having this much money is even when they do good things with it the amount of influence it gives them is dangerous.

Berkshire Hathaway star followed Warren Buffett's advice: Read 500 pages a day www.cnbc.com/2018/03/27/w...

This is great. And if I had enough money I'd love to read 6 hours a day, but it might not be the most practical advice for the average person.
Berkshire Hathaway star followed Warren Buffett's advice: Read 500 pages a day
"That's how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest," Warren Buffett told Todd Combs' class at Columbia Business School before Combs went to work at Berkshire.

I write stories about impossible choices and complex ideas.
I also desperately wish writing came with simple, binary rules.

Sometimes the deeper theme of a story only becomes clear in editing—and those stories often end up the most profound.

In the current world, choosing to be apolitical is a de facto endorsement of systemic oppression, environmental destruction, and other forms of harm. Politics doesn’t have to consume your life, and it’s not healthy if it does—but there is a line where disengagement becomes complicity.

My only issue with the term AI slop is the focus on the AI instead of the slop. The biggest change is the scale. They used to have to hire people to write a hundred different 'articles' about the same subject for a few cents each.
The effort is what makes the difference not the tool.
