A political liberal, Ms. Lockhart had no illusions about the good old days. In a 2004 interview with The New York Times, she recalled a connection "Lassie" script writers had with McCarthy-era blacklisting.

Yeah, this series has been a bag of bummers. All my trade deadline concerns about the lineup have come home to roost. But this team still made MKE history, claimed the league's best record, ended the Cubs, made the NLCS and won us free burgers. There are worse ways for a baseball fan to spend a year
