I would respect any chancellor who stated forecasts in terms like "between 25 and 30 billion" rather than "28.4 billion".

Is it just nostalgia, or was there a time when the ratio of party political puffery to actual budget information in the budget speech was much less than one? Now it seems to be about three.

I find it hugely depressing (sic) that our generation has changed the infrastructure of civilisation to become so vulnerable.
