I've been reading Code The Classics
magpi.raspberrypi.com/books/code-t...

Volume 2 is now also available.

I've started work on a new version of my favourite Atari 2600 game. Combat.

Maybe I'll be done in time for the 50th Anniversay in 2027

Now just do those 50 years all over again to get a letter from President Jedward.

Does the archive include court martial cases as well as the regular courts?

Not sure if that could be a difference.

Shoutout to one of my fave tweets ever of all time
Martin Leahy tweets:

“There was a bus going through Béal na Bláth once and the bus driver announced to the passengers, 'This is where Michael Collins died' and someone on the bus said 'Tis a bad bend alright'.”

The funniest part of this video is everyone thinking the dog is a bit stupid.

The dog knows EXACTLY where he wants to be.

It’s the humans that aren’t catching on.

Fond memories of “The Dragon Book”

And the country wasn’t exactly booming back when our grandparents had 15 siblings.

Classic opening shot of mini series about a serial killer.

Nightmare Fuel.

Why the hell am I getting vicariously terrified by your drone stories?

I’m way too invested in all this.

"Campaign costs will only be reimbursed by the State if a candidate wins the election or reaches more than 25 per cent of the quota."
Just saying like, even a jokey vote for Gavin could end up costing us.

Why are farmers complaining to us about this?

Grab a DeLorean and go talk to someone who can do something about it.

Past presidents of the IFA maybe.

Oh my god that is such a stupid article and reason for resigning from a party.

I don’t even know where to start.
zx23.bsky.social
If you ever do manage to read a full article you’ll invariably read all the way ti the end before realising the point in the headline isn’t covered in the article. And often is contradicted by the article. Leaving you feel cheated and less likely to read future articles.
zx23.bsky.social
The deliberately provocative and misleading headline provokes a response from people who’ve been mislead.

They respond to the writer (who isn’t the one who mislead them)

The writer blames the responders for being provoked and mislead by a headline designed to provoke and mislead them.

I’ve been pondering the world of modern journalism for the last day or so. And it’s an incredibly weird beast.

A writer writes a story.
A sub-editor slaps a misleading but engaging headline on it.
It’s put behind a paywall so most people won’t read it.

Tommy Tiernan gets lots of credit as an interviewer, and I still don't think he gets enough.

Watch this.

He has the comic chops to make the first half good craic. Half way through he shifts to more serious.

And he does this without knowing who he'd be interviewing.

Jesus. If you managed to lose that one it would be a very bad sample set for my “Do I Want A Drone?” study.

1 participant, 2 drones lost, would be hard to ignore.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

I think the point of the article is that the GAA thought gavin would be more popular and this is humbling.

Be it’s Fianna Fall that picked him and who thought he’d be more popular, not the GAA.
zx23.bsky.social
DJ Carey did far worse than Gavin.
Also not humbling for the GAA.

And if these were rugby players or swimmers or snooker players it also wouldn’t have anything to do with those sports.

Really Weird Take.
zx23.bsky.social
At no point did I think Gavin’s screw up was a GAA screw up.

I thought it was a Fianna Fáil and a Land Lord screw up.

I’m not sure how many people outside Dublin and Gaelic Football specifically new he’d been manager.

I love Hurling. But couldn’t have picked Gavin out of a line up 3 weeks ago.

When reusing a penny stamp was big business.

Also can we bring back the days when a stamp stayed in circulation for 40 years.
zx23.bsky.social
Yes Canada.

Exactly like that.

Neat old idea that should still be a thing. A letter card with postage already paid. Seal it closed recipient can tear it open.

Why aren’t postcards like this. Include postage and make it easier to send them and they might not die out.
