I'm sure they are out there. I'm more specifically wondering why one hasn't been as big as American Idiot? We haven't had that breakthrough album that hit the mainstream like that.

Where have protest albums gone? Where's the "American Idiot" of this generation? Or "When The President Talks To God" by Bright Eyes? "Lowcountry" by Envy On The Coast? It seemed like such a common thing under George W. It's even worse now and I don't see this kind of music in the mainstream.

Maybe it just suffers by comparison. They tried to replicate what made LotR so special and they couldn't reach those heights again. PJ said that at its core, LotR was about Frodo taking the ring to Mt Doom. And this one should have focused more on Bilbo's journey, but it went in too many directions.

I was watching BotFA and thinking, "This has to be because of Marvel." Non-stop battle slop with lots of sloppy CGI. The stakes of that fight were not worth an entire movie being a battle. Also, Thorin gets sucked into the gold floor and THAT'S what brings him to his senses? Ugh.

I watched 'Return of the King' for the millionth time on my recent flight home. Then the next day I watched 'Battle of the Five Armies' for the first time, and the drop in cinematic quality between these two films was...jarring. This is not a hot take, but seeing them back to back made it glaring.
