sorry I've been so quiet lately. Definitely got a lot going on. redoing a lot of the gameplay and level structure... plus my personal life is getting fairly complicated right now.
double dragon revive... is a game. the song for the Williams boss fight is amazing. it is otherwise a video game.
too many... unlimited saga, ff 13, the adventures of batman and Robin (Sega), sonic CD (JP), 3rd Strike and 2nd impact, metal gear solid 2, Darkstalkers 3, Blazblue, Tekken 3, 4 and Tag 1... etc

no game Dev today... but things are going smoothly. I just need to piece the game back together so to speak.
Showed how it Mike is in his normal state yesterday during battle transitions... now let's see LO-FI change back into Mike. Mike's gotta earn that chill out time once a fight starts.

so one thing in battles for rpg maker MZ I just accidently realized was AMAZING, was if you're using YED Sideview Battler, A. it works without the patch now. B. because Visustella Action Sequences are common events now and most of it is plugin commands, you can STILL use custom motions from YED.
Some new stuff...

1. Mike "mostly" fights alone now, but has access to concepts/ideas of his "friends" that he can summon.

2. Mike starts with 2 actions a turn because his will is strong enough that if he believes he gets 2, he gets 2.

The game is heading in an exciting direction folks. I finally, FINALLY feel like I know what to do.
I've been quiet for a while now. I've been working on a lot behind the scenes for the game. basically gave it a decent sized reboot to gather my thoughts on the project and HOPEFULLY finally aim in a direction that works. the AuHD is really making this tough, but I got this.
I just remembered that I have an ep on bandcamp that me and some homies worked on. "The Wonderful Woes of Zerobeat"...
I redid Mike's idle in battle to match his void form. both of which were inspired by Alex from SF3. Mike's got grappler moves, so I figured to model his stance based on that.

that's very true when you're solo or even a small team
that actually makes a lot of sense. I think my biggest issue was not learning any of this stuff before I started flinging areas together without much thought of how'd they'd be used/explored. it was actually almost an ENTIRE year into the game before I even drew my 1st map. too much battle focus.
while I know my game has a visual identity, I feel I doesn't really have a gameplay one. especially outside of battles. but then again, it's a turn based rpg. but then again, because of the sidescroller design, I feel I need to rethink exploring cause I feel like there isn't much
I did and at first... it was pretty minimal, until I updated it so high that yeah... it finally runs better. trust me tho, I spent years trying to get better performance, especially in battles and nothing helped. I was after to boost the NWJS too high, but I basically had to.
yeah, even tho I'm finally getting the hang of MZ... I still think I'm gonna just stick with MV. I know how to do what I need already. I've mainly only ever wanted to deal with MZ for the performance and certain plugins.
I think I know what my biggest issue is with rpg maker mz... it's soooo hard to manipulate windows. stuff is changing finally, but any custom UI stuff feels like an utter nightmare. be it in battle (especially) or normal menus... "good luck". problems I've solved in MV, way worse in MZ.
My game was always based around a comic book idea I had back in 2003-2004... the characters on the wall are actually from that version of the story that takes place a few years before the events of the game. Mike's older brother being a part of the original crew.

I can say is a LOT has come together in a short amount of time. I've once again tried to get things going in rpg maker MZ and (probably because I haven't touched battles yet), it's actually going really well. or better than it has in the past.

May Robbins... The new mystery girl in Mike's apartment complex. She moved to Autumn Bay from Summer City for a reason. To get away from the big city and a certain riot causer.

She loves science and gaming... and has an experiment in the works.

While I've been showing some of what's new with stuff outside of battle, it'll be a bit before I can show that stuff again. it's getting completely revamped from the ground up. Basically I'll be redoing everything (outside of the sprites). I'll be getting on that as soon as I get all my ideas ready.
