The pupils in Y6 have been showing their creative side recently in RE lessons. After creating their own musical soundtracks to hymns last week, today they put their drama skills in action, retelling the Parable of the Lost Son. Nothing better than outdoor RE lessons!

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, this week Y6 have been researching the life and achievements of Dame Elizabeth Anionwu- a British nurse (and now a professor) who has helped to transform the treatment of Sickle Cell disease in this country.

After weeks of learning about classifying organisms and classification keys, Year 6 have created eye-catching and informative fact-files about 'The Father of Taxonomy'- Carl Linneaus. Carl Linneaus, the botanist who developed the system to classify organisms. #Science @brunswickparkps.bsky.social
Let's sing, rap, dance, chant! Year 6 were given excerpts from famous hymns and gospel songs to create their own musical soundtracks. Pupils then performed to one another, and listeners discussed the impact of emotion. #Christianity #religion #worldbeliefs @brunswickparkps.bsky.social
In RE, Y6 pupils have been learning how the Christian faith is expressed through different art forms. In their most recent lesson, they explored the symbolism behind the paintings of icons within the Orthodox Church, using this as a stimulus to create their own icons.

This week, the pupils in Y6 have been introduced to their new online maths homework programme - maths.co.uk
Teachers will use the programme to set weekly tasks (on a Thursday) which will reinforce what the children have been learning about in class during the week.

In their humanities topic, Y6 pupils have been learning how countries, such as Japan, prepare for earthquakes and limit their impact. They particularly enjoyed designing public information posters, advising people what to do in the event of an earthquake.

Our Year 6s have been learning how to write informal letters, using punctuation lighten their tone of writing ✍️ Using inspiration from the book ‘The Windrush Child’ they wrote letters as Leonard to his father. Then, they published their work. What great teaching sequence @literacytree.bsky.social

This morning, Y6 pupils have been taking part in the Junior Citizenship Scheme, learning about important aspects of personal safety through a variety of workshop sessions involving organisations like the Police, Fire Brigade, TfL and Trading Standards.

In PSHE this week, Y6 pupils have been learning about the importance of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. They have enjoyed investigating (both practically and through case studies) how different types of exercise can benefit the human body in different ways.

Our Year 6s absolutely loved the @literacytree.bsky.social writing sequence “Can we save the tiger?” They wrote persuasive speeches to her peers, trying to convince their audience to act immediately and support the tigers, before it’s too late 🐅🐯
The children in Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their first humanities unit this year on earthquakes. They can already explain how earthquakes are caused, where they mainly occur and how they are measured!
