yea FUGA 1 is definitely like furry WWII. though experiencing it through the innocent, naive eyes of children manages to keep it cute and palatable enough for a bunch of people to make their own little war orphan OCs. Tail Concerto is where it's at though, it hits almost just like Mega Man Legends

i've thought the exact same so far, beyond the aesthetic similarities it has the cheesy anime feel too, down to the sudden random love interests even. it's very charming. have you played Solatorobo? it's always existed in my gaming periphery since seeing it in GameInformer(?)

Finished Fuga: Melodies of Steel. Super cute strategy game, wherein improving social bonds is what gets you leaning into certain playstyles. They're calling it furry World War II, but it's a bit more than that..
