Oh my gosh I was so confused when the characters kept saying the cat sucked the blood of the doe. Just drank the blood and left the whole carcass? Sounds like vampires 😂

Also, isn't it cool that a trunk acts like both an arm and a nose?
Imagine you reach out for an orange and you are smelling it at the same time. Very cool.

I started reading William Golding's "The inheritors" (1955).

It's interesting seeing how far we've come in our understanding of Neanderthals. In this book, they seem a little more like chimps... The babies automatically latch on to an adult's back when traveling.

So basically, my OC's world is really just me exploring our own world and putting my "oooh what if.." moments into a single story.
It's a bit fantastical in that regard, but it's still our world too so I enjoy that about it 😁

I also really like reading about world mythology, and have incorporated some of them into the story (eg. jinn, fairies, and yokai come from different cultures yet are very similar. Capricious spirits that can be good or bad.) One of the main characters is one of those creatures >:)

The fact that it's a world that humans have spent most time in throughout all our existence on earth (prehistory). It is a foreign world, yet very accessible at the same time. You just need to spend a day out in the wild to get a taste for it (with no modern technology, of course).
