I think if he had picked one story for each chapter of the saga it would have been fantastic!

3) the Oregon Trail story, 4) cattle drives heading West, think Lonesome Dove, 5) the Indian attack story from the white perspective. He was trying to ebb and flow them all together and it made it very disjointed and hard to follow.

Not his best work, I can see where he was going but he was trying to tell 5 stories at the same time. 1) The railroad and setlement camp story, think Hell on Wheels, 2) The indian attack history from the Indian perspective (settlers stealing their land/food think Dances with Wolves)
