Hi to all the new folks! My spouse and I, along with our children, live in rural Virginia where we raise goats, rabbits, & chickens (& sometimes hogs) as well as most of our own produce to provide our family with clean food while minimizing our impact on the earth. #SmallFarmLife
Black and white nubian billy goat with floppy ears standing in some hay and staring at the camera with his rectangular pupils. A retaining wall made of cinder blocks is to his left, and you can sort of see the torso of a black kiko nanny goat behind him.

Local health departments can also be a good resource. I've got the whole fam scheduled for our jabs next week at the county health department, they're able to order novavax if requested, and they're able to do it outdoors!

In previous years we've just scattered kale seeds over the ground and had a meadow of kale. The rows make it easier to harvest without stepping on food though...

It really is! It almost looks like a painting.

I can't handle them by themselves, gotta mix in some milder ones for sauce and powder.

These dahlias are in the neglected corner of our property but still going strong and attracting pollinators well into October 🌱

Yeah they don't water things down, great for coloring batter, frosting, and icing for holiday cookies as well!

Thanks, I'll pass on the compliments!

Ooh that sounds fun, I'll take em! You want me to save some apocalypse scorpion seeds for you?

That cake looks amazing too!

The kids definitely get their artistic abilities from her!

We've been using the same little jars of Wilton gel coloring for the past decade or so. Not the most natural, but it works, and the jars last a long time (assuming you're not pumping out these cakes on a daily basis).

She's a pro!

Now it's time to detox with kale...

3 lbs of powdered sugar in the frosting 😅

Thanks, I'll pass them along! It was supposed to be for a joint bday but unfortunately there was a covid exposure in the friend group so we decided to play it safe and stay home.

It is. A bit on the sweet side with all that frosting, a little goes a long way.

Thank you! It was delicious!

The best way to do it if you can

Welp she really outdid herself for our 8yo's bday 🍽️🎂

Probably should have gone with a less sweet frosting but oh well, our blood sugar will eventually go back down

Sounds like the beginnings of a business venture, or even better, a non-profit org to provide hella good food

Crowdfund it!

I have dreams of a commercial kitchen, if only to more easily feed my family of 7 😅

The rain let up but the wind is still howling, but it was enough of a break for Lila, our 5yo, and I to harvest some peppers and get things fermenting for hot sauce. Mostly jalapeños (one jar has a surprise Apocalypse Scorpion), the front jar is mainly habaneros 🌱🌶️🍽️
Black plastic produce basket overflowing with red and green jalapeños wet from the recent rain 3 glass jars, on 1/2 gallon in the front full of red habaneros, red serranos, red jalapeños, red onions, carrots, topped with red cabbage, the other two behind it full of green jalapeños, red onions, and carrots topped with green cabbage. They are all fitted with a fermenting cap and airlocks, and are on a table lined with burlap sacks in front of a Marshall 4x12 cabinet with an Orange Rocker 30 on top of it.
