New podcast is up! The guys and myself talk about Red Peony Gambler. This one was a lot of fun too, far more out of my usual comfort zone, learned a lot. Eager to dig into the rest of the series!

I think it's a personal brain thing! I'm jealous!
wonggifs.bsky.social
I so can't tell the difference between blu ray and 4K, and 4K is usually 4 times the price so I can rarely justify it!

Pearl is the best in the trilogy by miles, completely nuts, I really like MaXXXine too though
wonggifs.bsky.social
He's pretty dependably good. His Maxine trilogy is great.
wonggifs.bsky.social
Oh that's good to know! Thanks!

There was some gnarly gore in the opening! Good stuff! Also it doesn't seem to be taking itself as seriously as I was expecting.

#NowWatching Hatchet (2006 Adam Green) A movie I constantly see on streaming sites, decide I'm gonna watch all of these ones that have caught my eye over the years: See No Evil, The Collector, Vile, Housebound. Tubi, you've forced these upon me for years, this year, I cave.

I need more people to see this absolutely bonkers nonsense. Doesn't stop for one second! Amazing stuff!

I just finished THE SEVENTH CURSE for the first time and I can't exactly tell anyone what it's about, but it has a flying Xenomorph knockoff that knows Kung Fu and fights a flying ghost fetus in the finale before it's destroyed by rocket launcher wielding Chow Yun- Fat. 5 stars.

Yes this movie is basically the Australian experience in a nutshell. This, Mr Nice Guy and Wolf Creek.

I spent a year in Sydney in 2012-13 and was constantly getting into streetfights with guys on motorcycles

#NowWatching Wishmaster (1997 Robert Kurtzman) The most 1986-coded 1997 movie of all time. Some cool practical effects, but somehow the most horrific thing is that the Wishmaster both looks and sounds like someone familiar.

I was kind of underwhelmed by this, considering the director's other work.
wonggifs.bsky.social
Right?! Just like in Mr Nice Guy!

I've got endings 1 and 5! I'm not sure I'll do 2 and 3, but I know I need to get at least one of them to get 4. What is the part you can skip over?
wonggifs.bsky.social
Yeah alright that does sound amazing

Although I am desperately sad about the news about D'Angelo, it did lead me to discover that D'Angelo influence Lewis Taylor put out a covers album with a sick version of Summer Breeze last year

If you are there for the plot, then it might be disappointing I guess. If you're there for Tony Jaa knee smashing people in the face? Perfect 80 minutes.
wonggifs.bsky.social
I hear the shorter version edits out some fight stuff, but it is a tight, near perfect 80 minutes. You get the set up with the elephant, but then it is just wham bam for the rest of the run time
wonggifs.bsky.social
Damn the version that is on Tubi is just 'Tony Jaa walks into room -- "where is my elephant?" -- fight for about 80 minutes

Weapons is great and Volume 7 has some good ones!

Before he was famous he was also the first manager of the massively influential British band Suede, so that might actually be the best thing he's ever done.
