Also since I'm here today, happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for anyone who's ever looked at my art or took any amount of time to appreciate it. I can't always see the value in it, and it legitimately makes me happy that others do. Thank you. Unironically uwu.

I've updated my own ToS just in case I ever do commissions again. I added a generative AI clause and a reminder of laws that have always existed. And remember, those laws are meant to protect everyone from bad actors. If you're cool, I'm cool.

That said, if you've ever gotten art from me, while I don't want people selling it, I don't really care if you modify it or print it to display it or whatever. Credit is enough. The whole law discussion is more to protect ourselves from bad actors like people who abuse LLMs and stuff. Just be smart.

This is how the law has worked for a long time now, and not knowing about it does not mean it never existed, or that artists adding law into their ToS is some kind of ex posto facto thing. Before you enter into a business transaction, it is your responsibility to understand your rights.

In North America, artists retain the copyright for their work at creation. You are not paying for ownership, you are paying for production.

I don't think there will be commissions in the future. It's too stressful for me, and that's not the relationship I want with art, if I even want one at all. That's what I'm trying to decide right now.
I'm flattered people like my art, but I honest-to-god don't understand why.

I don't think it's normal to struggle this much. I can't even draw things right now that I've drawn tons of times before, and I'm not sure why. People don't just forget skills. That's not how it works.

Art is so unapproachable for me. Every other skill I've ever tried to learn in life has been reinforced by repetition and thoughtful application. Not art. Every time I sit down to do it, it's a struggle. I've been on the brink of quitting so many times this year and I don't know how to fix it.

And then the insanity that is:

As all this bluesky shit is going on, I offer a (slightly hypocritical) solution: newgrounds. They're still there. They're still not giving in, as far as I know.

I really need to move my shit over there, because I'll be honest, once bsky goes under, I think I'm just done.

I don't own anything except for the lines I draw, and you can copy those too. Just throw me or whoever else a bone and credit us. :>

In the pursuit of a method or technique that works best for me, I've explored all sorts of avenues. I've used 3D posing dolls, I've traced 3D posing dolls, I've traced references, I use references whenever I can, rulers, etc. You name it.

Only plagiarism is cheating. Everything else is fair game.

I don't know how many baby artists are following me, but if you are and you've ever been worried about tracing or using references or any other tool: don't be. As long as you're not passing off others' work as your own, you're fine. Carve out whatever path you need to to express your art.
