And to separate the “natural” ones from ones against critics of leaded gas and cigarettes which were just stealth industry psy-ops campaigns.

We had an entire frat suspended because they thought it would
be funny to write a bunch of racist shit on their shirts and hats and sit in the stands when we played a team from a HBCU.

A big reason why everyone in the 90s knew what the campus Republicans were about is that every campus paper was filled with opinion pieces where they’d tell you.
wishda.bsky.social
The best place to look is in the opinion columns in their college papers. They put their names and faces next to some shit.

The Daily Tar Heel at UNC likes to run articles written in their pages by current state GOP leaders. It’s always foul.

It’s a good one.

And the college Republican organizations had a national reputation as racist edgelords.

And I’m not sure which particular stretch of the 90s she is from, but they got REAL nasty and mask-off during the OJ trial.

That was tense on my campus, and they were dancing around throwing gasoline.

He should have kicked them out day one.

They were obviously a propaganda outlet not a serious journalism shop. It’s not like The National Review gets a press pass.

The issue was with the actual media keeping up the kayfabe to protect Fox.

And the people going full fash are surrounding themselves with dangerous people.

You do not want to be on some of their new friends’ radar, much less end up inviting one into your home.

Some of these fash-curious types are going to end up murdered by their new friends.

What about the Aliens/Predator/Terminator trifecta? All three are peak 80s horror movies.

And oh yeah, The Hidden. I loved that movie at his age.

Like, do they think medical masks were invented in 2020?

Because calling people who mask “fearful” and stoking public resentment means that elderly chemo patients are refusing to mask due to the widespread and open social stigma.

But even mention that and they rage out.

The thing that shocks me at this point is how reflexive and vicious the lashing out is. They still feel they are victimized by maskers despite having “won.”

Where, from my perspective, they have scorched the earth so well that even people who need to mask for other reasons feel pressure not to.

It’s vintage 80s cringe! Not the modern knockoff stuff.

“I still believe!”

Lost Boys - Another great YA horror with a great cast
wishda.bsky.social
The Fog - There’s a brief topless scene, but it is very much Carpenter’s “Spielberg” movie. Seen it reviewed more than once as YA Horror.

Tremors - fun and genuinely scary in places

American Werewolf London - Bit more intense in places but it one of the best comedy horrors

Gremlins - It rules

A Girl… has one of the most visually iconic monster designs in years.

Plus, she’s really cool even when she’s terrifying little children.

This isn’t creeping conservatism being consolidated, but active and feral fascism.

And we have enough perspective to know that burns out fast. The only fascist states that lasted more than a generation had protection from larger powers. Still gone.

This will be hard, but it will not be forever.

The “von” too.

Blocked on site.

Then you look at the MPHs and epidemiologists among the “irrational” and realize…

Fuck if I know, I’m not your therapist.

Doesn't mention the post-war Nazi rehab stuff from the book, but it does give an overview of the program here:
